Dubois County Health Department Hosts Free Car Seat Clinic at The Playce
Certified technicians will provide free one-on-one car-seat inspections and installations at The Playce, 248 Third Street, Jasper, on March 19 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The Dubois County Health Department will host a free Car Seat Clinic on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Eastern at The Playce, 248 Third Street in Jasper. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from the health department will staff the clinic and offer one-on-one inspections and installations for families and caregivers in Dubois County and the surrounding area.
The Health Department’s event post makes the case for hands-on help: “We understand installing a car seat correctly can be confusing and difficult,” the post reads, adding that “Our team of Certified Technicians will provide one-on-one personalized education and instruction on how to properly use and install your child‘s car seat. All families and caregivers are welcome!” The technicians will check that seats and boosters are appropriate for each child’s age, weight, and height and that harnesses and anchors are secured correctly.
Organizers say the clinic’s goal is safety: technicians will work to ensure seats are properly secured to reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of a vehicle crash. Families are encouraged to bring their child’s car seat, the vehicle in which the seat will be used, and any relevant instruction manuals so technicians can complete in-vehicle installations and adjustments.
Registration is encouraged but not required; organizers ask that families register by March 17, 2026. To register or ask questions, contact Mary Peters by email at mrpeters@duboiscountyin.org or by phone at (812) 481-7050. The Dubois County Health Department also offers car seat checks daily during normal business hours for residents who need routine inspections outside special clinics.

The March 19 clinic is presented in partnership with The Playce and is identified by organizers as part of the Health First Indiana initiative supporting child passenger safety. The Health Department has run similar events before: a previous free clinic on Saturday, June 14, 2025, ran from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Dubois County Health Department building at 1187 South Saint Charles Street in Jasper; that event required appointments and families were asked to call Mary at (812) 481-7050 to schedule.
Parents and caregivers who want personal instruction from certified technicians can register by March 17 or attend the March 19 session at The Playce, where the health department’s team will focus on correct installation, appropriate seat selection as children grow, and practical demonstrations to help caregivers secure children safely for travel.
