Dubois County Health Department Offers From Soil to Harvest Vegetable Gardening Class
Rural King in Jasper donated seed packets for attendees at the Dubois County Health Department’s beginner gardening class, held March 12 (6–7 p.m.) and March 13 (1–2 p.m.) in Jasper.

Rural King in Jasper donated seed packets to kickstart participants’ spring gardens at the Dubois County Health Department’s one-hour beginner class, From Soil to Harvest: Vegetable Gardening for Beginners, scheduled for March 12, 2026, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. and March 13, 2026, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. The sessions will take place at the Health Department offices at 1187 South Saint Charles Street in Jasper.
The Health Department framed the course as an entry point for novice growers, saying, “The Dubois County Health Department is excited to announce an upcoming beginner gardening class, From Soil to Harvest: Vegetable Gardening for Beginners, scheduled for March 2026.” In-class instruction will cover selecting a proper garden location, choosing beginner-friendly vegetables, basic garden maintenance and tips for a productive growing season; an original department summary also lists soil preparation, seasonal planting, pest management and safe produce handling as possible topics.
The county website and local outlets note the format is classroom-style and designed for questions: “Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance to help them confidently begin their gardening journey.” Each session is one hour long; the March 13 listing on event platforms identifies the session as 1:00–2:00 p.m. (EDT).
The Health Department is limiting attendance and requires registration. The county’s announcement specifies the class is open to Dubois County residents ages 10 and up, and it asks that “We ask that each person sign up for only one session to allow everyone the opportunity to participate.” To reserve a spot, call 812-481-7050 or email Mary Peters at mrpeters@duboiscountyin.org; Mary Peters is listed as the contact for additional information and for scheduling related consultations.

Local support helped assemble starter materials: “Thanks to the generous donation from Rural King in Jasper, participants will receive a variety of seed packets to help them get started with their own gardens at home.” AllEvents and local news listings corroborate the donation and the Health Department as the host organization.
The Health Department page that announces the gardening class also highlights ongoing public-health services at the same Jasper address. Residents may pick up approved sharps containers at the Drive Thru Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., and full containers will be collected on scheduled dates March 5, June 4, September 3 and December 3, 2026; the department will accept only approved containers on those dates and through the Drive Thru. The page also notes fall-prevention outreach, stating, “Did you know that falls are the leading cause of emergency room visits in Dubois County? Every year, one in four older Americans experiences a fall,” and directs people to contact Mary Peters at mrpeters@duboiscountyin.org or 812-481-7050 to schedule STEADI consultations.
To sign up for From Soil to Harvest, call 812-481-7050 or email Mary Peters at mrpeters@duboiscountyin.org; registration is required and seats are limited at the Dubois County Health Department, 1187 South Saint Charles Street, Jasper.
