FEMA Extends Disaster Aid Application Deadline to April 3 for North Slope Borough
FEMA extended the individual assistance application deadline to April 3, 2026, for survivors of the Oct. 8–13, 2025 storms; in-person help is available at AVCP Tugkar Building in Bethel.

FEMA has extended the federal Individual Assistance and SBA application deadline to April 3, 2026, for survivors of the Oct. 8–13, 2025 severe storms, flooding and remnants of Typhoon Halong, the agency announced Feb. 20, 2026. The extension covers the state of Alaska and applies to FEMA Individual Assistance, state channels and Small Business Administration assistance tied to the October event.
To apply, the agency and local reporters point applicants to online and phone options as well as an in-person site in Bethel. “To apply for individual assistance before the April 3 deadline, visit disasterassistance.gov or call the FEMA Alaska Call Center at 866-342-1699. Apply for state assistance at ready.alaska.gov,” KTOO reported, with Yup’ik interpreters available at the Bethel site. The Bethel in-person location is the Association of Village Council Presidents (AVCP) Tugkar Building, 573 3rd Ave, open 10 a.m.–noon and 1 p.m.–4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Local reporting and FEMA numbers provide a snapshot of the program to date. KTOO reports that “FEMA said that it has approved $36 million in federal individual assistance for 2,084 households so far.” KTOO also relayed program limits as stated: “Federal disaster assistance provides up to $42,500 for home repairs and up to $42,500 for other items.” The supplied materials do not clarify whether those figures are additive; applicants seeking detail on caps should confirm with FEMA or SBA case officers.
The April 3 extension is the second deadline change for the Alaska declaration. KYUK noted, “This is the second extension of a deadline initially set for December 2025 that would have expired on Feb. 20,” moving survivors’ last chance to apply beyond the February cutoff that would otherwise have stood.
FEMA has also reiterated accessibility provisions for the Alaska recovery. In agency messaging dated Feb. 18, 2026 the agency stated, “FEMA remains committed to ensuring equal access and equal benefits to disaster programs for survivors recovering from the Oct. 2025 Alaska West Coast Storms. FEMA may pay for physical accessibility items for survivors who need them.”
The supplied FEMA and local materials used for this report do not explicitly list North Slope Borough among designated areas for the Oct. 2025 declaration. Residents or borough officials seeking confirmation of geographic designation should contact the FEMA Alaska Call Center at 866-342-1699 or consult ready.alaska.gov and the Alaska Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management for the official list of covered boroughs and communities.
The application window now runs through April 3, 2026; survivors can apply online at disasterassistance.gov, by phone at 866-342-1699, or in person at AVCP Tugkar Building, 573 3rd Ave, Bethel, during the posted hours with Yup’ik interpreters on site.
