Games Workshop Withdraws Maelstrom Drukhari Box Over Missing Hellion Sprues
Games Workshop pulled the Maelstrom Battalion: Drukhari box after retailers opened early shipments and found the advertised squad of five Hellions missing; retailer emails ordered disposal and promised full refunds.

Games Workshop has withdrawn the Maelstrom Battalion: Drukhari box set from sale after early retail copies were opened and discovered to be missing the sprues for a squad of five Hellions. Retailer communication tied to the withdrawal instructed stores to "Dispose of it at your earliest convenience" and said GW "Will process a full refund for this item as soon as possible."
Local game stores and members of r/Drukhari reported the absence of the hover-board-riding Hellions advertised on the box packaging, with multiple unboxings showing whole sprues missing rather than single mispacked parts. YouTuber MiniaturesRundown posted a short unboxing that appears to confirm the hole in the kit; observers have noted the missing unit equals five models and prevents building the squad the box lists.
There is a discrepancy in advertised street dates tied to the release. "The scheduled release date for the kit was advertised as Saturday February 28," while other notices list a "Street Date Was February 21." Regardless of the exact launch timing, the Warhammer webstore product page has disappeared and at least some pre-orders were cancelled as retailers began receiving the withdrawal instruction.
Retailer-facing instructions circulating in emails made the withdrawal process explicit: "Do not ship it back. Just get it out of circulation." Retailers say the messaging committed to refunds while asking stores to remove stock from sale rather than return shipments, and one retail assessment warned that "If a box is marketed with a specific contents list and you can’t build a key unit because the sprues are not even there, it’s functionally unsellable."
Community reaction has been vocal. A Belloflostsouls commenter captured players' mix of nostalgia and annoyance with the line "There are five missing models from the book from the good ole days." Threads on social channels and hobby sites are also rehashing wider Drukhari kit desiderata, from requests for new Archon and Lady Malys sculpts to questions about Vect and Helion Packmaster options, although those discussions are separate from the recall itself.
Confirmed actions so far are withdrawal from the webstore, retailer refund promises, and instructions to dispose of affected boxes. Key unanswered questions remain: the production scope of the missing sprues, whether replacement sprues will be supplied instead of refunds, and which exact shipments or batches were affected. GW hasn't publicly acknowledged what the problem is.
