Hernando-Citrus MPO Board cancels March 5 meeting; April 2 scheduled in Brooksville

The Hernando-Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization posted that its regular MPO Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. has been cancelled. The MPO notice states, "The next regular public meeting of the Hernando-Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization Board is scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2026, beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the Brooksville City Council Chambers, 201 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, Florida."

The cancellation notice was published on the Hernando-Citrus MPO and Hernando County websites with a posted date of February 26, 2026, and the materials also carry a February 24, 2026 publication line from the Hernando and Citrus Counties Public Information Offices. The posted page on the county site displays the Hernando County logo, site navigation elements and the county main line, (352) 754-4000, adjacent to the notice.

Contact information for questions about the cancellation is provided in the notice and names MPO Executive Director Bob Esposito. The notice reads in full: "Any questions concerning the cancellation of this public meeting should be directed to Mr. Bob Esposito, MPO Executive Director, Hernando-Citrus MPO, 789 Providence Boulevard, Brooksville, Florida, 34601, telephone (352) 754-4082, or email mpo@hernandocounty.us."

County records and the MPO news feed reflect the cancellation on the online meeting calendar. One excerpt of the county calendar entry in the reporting materials is truncated and ends mid-sentence, so the documents available to the public show the cancellation but do not include an explanation for why the March 5 meeting was called off.

A separate but related notice filed earlier addresses the Hernando County Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board. The TDLCB notice, labeled MPO 2026-06, scheduled a public meeting for Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 1:45 p.m. at the Hernando County Building Training Facility, 1661 Blaise Drive, Brooksville, and includes agenda items such as the annual election of a TDLCB vice chair and review of quarterly reports. That TDLCB notice reiterates that agenda materials may be posted approximately one week before meetings on the Hernando County and Hernando-Citrus MPO websites and carries statutory appeal language referencing Section 286.0105 F.S.

The MPO page also includes a user-facing note about its web presence: "Welcome! We hope you find our new website helpful and easier to navigate. It's now as easy to use on your smartphone as your desktop. Take a tour and please tell us what you think." The posted materials do not say whether any items planned for the cancelled March 5 session were deferred to April 2 or to another forum.

As of the February 26 posting, no reason for the March 5 cancellation was provided.
