Influencer Sara Gilson killed by estranged husband after TikTok accusation

Sara Gilson had already turned to the courts and to TikTok before police say the violence turned fatal. Less than two weeks after she posted a video accusing estranged husband Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey of pedophilia, Owasso police said Duffey shot Gilson in her Oklahoma home and then died by suicide. Gilson was 43; Duffey was 48.

The couple was found dead with gunshot wounds in the home on July 23, police said. Court records show Gilson had filed an emergency protective order against Duffey about a month before her death, and that the order was extended through August. That sequence leaves a stark record: Gilson had identified danger, sought legal protection, and still ended up unprotected when the confrontation arrived. Gilson was also identified in reporting as an Oklahoma hairstylist and mother.

The warning signs were not limited to court filings. A 911 dispatcher heard Gilson screaming and crying before the shooting, a detail that suggests a crisis unfolding in real time, with almost no margin for intervention. One of Gilson’s final TikTok posts showed her visibly nervous, with hands clasped and knees shaking, as she sat down in front of a blank wall. The text on the clip appeared to point to the motive for the killing.

NBC News reported that Duffey had been accused of molesting a girl, adding background to Gilson’s public accusation. Taken together, the police findings, the protective order, and the emergency call show how quickly a domestic-violence case can escalate after a victim speaks out online. In Gilson’s case, the legal protection she sought and the alarm she sounded on social media did not stop the fatal outcome in Owasso.
