Turbines at two utility plants inside Iran's Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone were knocked offline on Saturday after strikes severed power and gas supply to the entire complex, Iranian officials confirmed, plunging one of the country's most critical industrial hubs into a halt.

Electricity to all petrochemical facilities in Mahshahr was cut after strikes hit Fajr units 1 and 2, Iranian state media reported. Managers at Persian Gulf Fajr Energy said turbines at the units were knocked offline, halting power supply and affecting plants that provide key feedstock and fuel.

The damage extended well beyond the two Fajr units. Khuzestan Deputy Governor Valiollah Hayati said that at 10:47 a.m., three powerful explosions struck the Mahshahr petrochemical area. Several major sites, including the Fajr 1 and 2, Rejal, and Amir Kabir plants, were directly hit, and Hayati warned that casualties were expected. Iranian officials later reported at least five people injured across Mahshahr and Bandar-e Imam Khomeini, where further strikes caused partial damage to petrochemical infrastructure.

The state-run Bandar Imam petrochemical complex, which produces chemicals, liquefied petroleum gas, polymers, and a range of other products, was struck and sustained damage. Explosions were heard and smoke rose after missiles hit several locations across the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone.

The strikes targeted the petrochemicals hub in southwestern Iran, hitting several companies in the area, according to Iranian media. "Explosions occurred in the Special Petrochemical Zone of Mahshahr," said Fars news agency, citing the deputy governor for Khuzestan province.

The strikes primarily hit the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Zone and Bandar Imam Complex, affecting plants including Fajr, Rejal, and Amir Kabir. According to the IDF, production of chemical precursors at these facilities has been completely halted.

The Mahshahr complex sits in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, an important energy hub. The disruption followed earlier U.S. warnings that it could expand its targets if Iran continued to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. With turbines down and power severed across the zone, the full scope of industrial and economic damage remained under assessment as rescue and firefighting operations continued across multiple sites.
