Juvenile Killed, Two Injured at Golden Gate and Laguna in Western Addition
Three juveniles were shot at Golden Gate Avenue and Laguna Street; one died at the hospital. The incident raises urgent concerns about safety in Western Addition parks and public spaces.

Three juveniles were shot Friday evening at the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue and Laguna Street in the Western Addition, leaving one dead and two others with non‑life‑threatening injuries, San Francisco police said. The shooting occurred at approximately 5:13 p.m., and investigators from the SFPD Homicide Detail are leading the probe.
“Officers arrived on scene and discovered three juvenile victims suffering from gunshot wounds,” the San Francisco Police Department said in its release. Officers rendered aid and medics transported all three to a hospital. One of the victims suffered life‑threatening injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, was declared deceased at the hospital. Authorities have not released victim names or ages.
Neighbors described a chaotic scene near nearby parks. NBC Bay Area reported that Margaret S. Hayward Park was busy at the time and quoted neighbor Lisa Butler saying, “I heard the gunshots, I thought it was fireworks at first, but I didn’t hear the crackling afterwards,” and “And so, I went to my patio, and I could see, everyone in the park was running out of the park.” Another resident, Enile Ahmed, told NBC Bay Area, “I always say it’s the best soccer field in the city, I always come here all the time,” expressing dismay that the victims were teens.
Local outlets vary in how they describe the immediate surroundings; some place the shooting just south of Jefferson Square Park while others cite Margaret S. Hayward Park. The SFPD identifies the exact scene as Golden Gate Avenue and Laguna Street. KTVU reported that the department’s Officer Robert Rueca told the station officers found the three victims at that intersection.
No arrests have been reported and a motive has not been established. The department has assigned case number 260-059-279 to the investigation and asked anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, text TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD, or call the non‑emergency line at 415-553-0123. For emergencies, residents should call 9-1-1.
The shooting underscores long‑running community concerns about youth safety and the use of public parks in the Western Addition, where families and youth teams regularly gather. City and police leaders will likely face renewed pressure to outline steps for patrol patterns, lighting, park maintenance, and outreach to at‑risk youth. For now, neighbors and park users are left to reckon with the loss and to press for information as the homicide detail continues its work.
Readers who witnessed the scene or have video or other information are urged to contact SFPD with the case number 260-059-279. Further updates are expected as investigators follow leads and the department releases more details.
