Kapa‘a Pool Closed Sundays and Mondays; New Hours Begin Feb. 18
Kapa‘a Swimming Pool will be closed Sundays and Mondays and shift to reduced weekday and Saturday hours starting Feb. 18, the Kaua‘i County Parks & Recreation announced.

Kapa‘a Swimming Pool will be closed Sundays and Mondays and will operate on an adjusted schedule beginning Feb. 18, the Kaua‘i County Department of Parks & Recreation said in a Feb. 12 news release, attributing the change to staffing issues and stating the schedule will remain in effect until further notice.
The county release lists the new hours as follows: Sundays - Mondays: closed Tuesdays: 10:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Wednesdays to Fridays: 8:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The Feb. 12 release carries the County of Kaua‘i header identifying Derek S.K. Kawakami as Mayor, Reiko Matsuyama as Managing Director and Patrick T. Porter as Director of the Department of Parks & Recreation; the header lists Porter’s phone as (808) 241-4460 and provides the Waimea pool as a public contact at 808-338-1271. The release also instructs media to contact the County Communications Team via the county’s published communications email, CountyPIO@kauai.gov, for inquiries.
The announcement attributes the adjustment to “staffing issues” but does not specify which job classifications are affected, how many positions are vacant, or whether swim lessons, lap swim or county-run classes will be rescheduled or refunded. The county’s statement uses the phrase “until further notice” for the duration of the schedule; no timeline for restoring previous hours is provided in the release.

“The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the community for its patience and understanding,” the release states, underscoring that the department is notifying the public while the schedule change is in place.
Local outlets republished the county notice in the days after the release. KauaiNow ran the item with a photo caption reading “Kapa’a Swimming Pool (Photo File)” and noted the Feb. 18 start as Wednesday; Island6365 included the brief in its “News Briefs for Friday, February 13, 2026” roundup. All republished versions repeat the same Feb. 18 effective date, the closed Sundays-Mondays block and the weekday and Saturday times.
The county release was issued Feb. 12 and the adjusted schedule will take effect Feb. 18. Residents seeking clarification on program impacts, scheduling of swim lessons, or operational details can call the Waimea pool at 808-338-1271 or direct media queries to CountyPIO@kauai.gov; the Parks & Recreation director listed in the release is Patrick T. Porter, (808) 241-4460.
