Keanu Taylor dies after Brixton shooting, police launch murder probe
Keanu Taylor, 25, died after gunfire on Coldharbour Lane, and detectives are now testing whether a later stabbing on Acre Lane is linked.

Armed police, ambulance crews and detectives were called to Coldharbour Lane in Brixton at 01:14hrs on Saturday, 2 May, after reports of multiple shots fired. Officers arrived within four minutes and gave emergency first aid with the London Ambulance Service, but Keanu Taylor, 25, later died after being taken to hospital.
Three other people, aged 21, 47 and 70, were also taken to hospital. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing. The Metropolitan Police has now launched a murder investigation, with Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo leading the inquiry. No arrests had been made when police issued their statement.
The shooting has left detectives trying to piece together a fast-moving sequence of violence in one of Brixton’s busiest nightlife and residential corridors. Police are also examining whether a stabbing on nearby Acre Lane, about an hour later, is connected. That attack left a 33-year-old man with multiple stab wounds and in a life-threatening condition. If the two incidents are linked, investigators will be dealing not just with one shooting, but with a broader episode of street violence across the same patch of south London.

Witness accounts suggest the gunfire shattered a social gathering. Reports described panic at what was said to be a busy barbecue, with people running into a nearby shop after hearing shots. That detail matters because it can help detectives map the scene, identify where people were standing, and determine whether the attack was targeted or carried out from a moving vehicle. In cases like this, timing, crowd movement and discarded video can be as important as physical evidence.
Police have asked anyone with information to come forward, especially anyone with footage. Witnesses were told to call 101 and quote CAD 557/2May, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Residents in the area were also told to expect an increased police presence over the coming days as officers continue canvassing for evidence and reassurance patrols.

For Brixton, the investigation now carries a wider question beyond one fatal shooting: whether police can quickly turn a chaotic night of gunfire and stabbing reports into a clear account of what happened, and show residents that prevention efforts can still make a difference before violence spreads further.
