Lake Region Healthcare’s Fergus Falls, Elbow Lake Hospitals Earn Chartis Top 100

Lake Region Healthcare announced Feb. 20, 2026, that both its Fergus Falls hospital and Elbow Lake hospital were named to the Chartis Center for Rural Health 2026 Top 100, a national evaluation program that assesses rural hospitals across the country. The recognition covers facilities that serve a multi-county region and highlights LRH’s role as the independent, community-owned nonprofit headquartered at 712 Cascade St. S., Fergus Falls.

The LRH system operates two hospitals, 10 clinics, a cancer center and the Mill Street Residence assisted living facility, and lists outreach clinics in Ashby, Battle Lake, Barnesville and Elbow Lake. Business Fergusfalls describes LRH as “midsized rural health system” with facilities in nine communities that primarily serve five counties in west central Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, including Fergus Falls, Elbow Lake, Ashby, Barnesville, Battle Lake, Evansville, Herman and Morris.

Public health capacity at LRH is described differently across sources. Devex includes the phrase “With over 80 and over 900 employees,” a transcription that is explicit in that source but ambiguous in meaning. Locally, the Chartis recognition arrives amid other LRH news this winter: a Feb. 11 DAISY Award honoring Brittany Watson and a Jan. 23 recognition of Dr. Chelsey Johnson as a Hero of Healthcare, both items listed on LRH’s news page. For Otter Tail County residents, the award underscores that the Fergus Falls main campus and the smaller Elbow Lake medical center are being evaluated against national rural peers while providing cancer care, walk-in and expanded west-side clinic hours, and athletic training and group fitness on the Fergus Falls campus.
