A late sequence of clutch plays gave No. 3 Boulder City a 39-36 victory over No. 4 Pahrump Valley on Senior Night, handing the Trojans a narrow loss in their regular-season finale.
The matchup between neighboring rivals lived up to the billing as a defensive struggle and back-and-forth contest. Boulder City improved to 14-13 overall and 9-5 in the 3A Southern League, while Pahrump Valley closed its regular season with a hard-fought showing. The game featured a slow opening, timely outside shooting and several lead changes in the fourth quarter.
Pahrump Valley opened the scoring from the free-throw line as Kaitlyn Brown converted the game’s first points. The Trojans built an early advantage behind buckets from Riley Saldana and long-range threats from Addi Nelsen, and Pahrump led 8-5 after a low-scoring first quarter that saw Boulder City’s early offense come from sophomores Kyra Stevens and Lauren Mueller.
Boulder City trailed by two at halftime but mounted a determined response in the second half. Pahrump carried first-quarter momentum into the third, opening the period with a three-pointer from Ondrisko and stretching its lead to seven with six minutes remaining in the quarter following layups by Saldana inside through traffic. The Eagles countered late in the period, with scoring from Mueller and Malley Jobin and a late three by Shamo cutting the deficit to 27-25 heading into the fourth.
The final quarter featured several lead changes and clutch plays on both ends. Pahrump briefly pushed the margin to four before Martorano tied the game at 29-29 with a free throw. Shamo then drilled a dagger three-pointer to give Boulder City a 32-29 lead, and the Eagles held on through heavy late pressure. Addi Nelsen’s career night from beyond the arc for Pahrump Valley nearly flipped the script; a long three late in the game came up just short of changing the outcome.
The result closes Pahrump Valley’s regular season on Senior Night and leaves Boulder City with a winning record in league play as postseason planning begins.
