Laura Huber Launches LD 25 State Senate Bid, Challenges Tim Dunn
Yuma mental health counselor Laura Huber launched a Democratic bid March 5 for Arizona State Senate LD25, centering water for Yuma farms and affordable healthcare ahead of a July 21 primary.

Laura Huber launched her campaign March 5, 2026 for the Arizona State Senate seat in Legislative District 25, entering the race as a Democratic challenger to Republican incumbent Tim Dunn. Huber is a Yuma resident who said she is running to bring constituent voices to the Capitol and to contest a seat Dunn currently holds.
Huber detailed her professional background as she announced the campaign: she has worked as a mental health counselor for over a decade, overseeing crisis mobile teams and homeless outreach. Campaign materials include a childhood photo with her brother and a photo of Huber participating in the Pat Tillman Foundation Run, underscoring her local ties and service-minded framing.
Huber named three focus areas for her campaign: affordability, healthcare and education. On geography and priorities she said, "Which includes part of yuma, as well as surprise and buckeye, and all the areas in between there," and she connected those places to water and agriculture: "I think I also understand how absolutely essential farmers are, and how essential water is to making sure that they're able to do their jobs." Huber warned that regional water management will require action soon: "The Colorado River agreement is going to be something that needs to be addressed, especially in this coming year. And we have to make sure that we have enough water to support both our agriculture, especially in the yuma area and, the ongoing spread that our big Phoenix metro."
Huber framed her run as a response to national trends, saying, "I have really seen and been concerned about as many people are what's happening in our federal government presently. And I wanted to just do my part to hopefully shift things back into a place where, we're making choices that help the most people instead of just focusing more on the top 1%, I did." Her campaign website reiterates the platform in calls to action: "I’m Laura Huber, and I’m running for Arizona State Senate, LD25 to bring compassion and common sense back into our politics," and appeals for grassroots support with lines such as "Every signature, every $5, and every contribution helps build a movement rooted in integrity, compassion, and action."

Campaign operations are already under way: Huber is soliciting nomination petition signatures to qualify for the 2026 ballot and is accepting donations with specific asks, including a $5 contribution that "Qualifies Laura Huber for Public Funding Through Clean Elections" and a $220 early contribution described as separate from the Clean Elections amount. The campaign's online presence also includes a community prompt and a fragment of social outreach text: "Instagram: o Vote for Laur VoteforLauraHuber a Huber Candidate for Arizona State Senate CandidateforArizonaSateSnat LD25 . DO Vote VoteforLauraHuber."
The electoral calendar sets a near-term deadline: the primary is scheduled for July 21, with the general election in November, and Dunn has signaled he plans to run for re-election and plans on filing his signatures next week. The filing and signature period will determine whether Huber and Dunn face off on the LD25 ballot, shaping a contest that will focus on water for Yuma agriculture, affordability, healthcare and education across communities from Yuma to Surprise and Buckeye.
