Yuma Resident Gets 10-Year Prison Term for Fentanyl Distribution
U.S. prosecutors announced that 30-year-old Yuma resident Jose Ramon Lopez was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

U.S. prosecutors in the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that 30-year-old Yuma resident Jose Ramon Lopez was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said March 5, 2026. The federal judgment imposes a 10-year term following the guilty plea entered "last August," according to local reporting.
Investigators detailed a 2021 seizure that became central to the case: "Investigators say in 2021, a trooper in Oklahoma found Lopez in possession of over 5,000 counterfeit oxycontin pills, containing almost 600 grams of fentanyl," a local report stated. That seizure, coupled with the federal plea, formed the factual basis cited by prosecutors in the Eastern District of Oklahoma announcement.
Local reporting also places Lopez in the crosshairs of multiple enforcement actions. "Lopez was arrested in 2024 by the U.S. Marshals," another account said, and a separate report describes state-level allegations in which "Lopez transported 30 pounds of methamphetamine on July 18, 2025. He attempted to flee when law enforcement tried to arrest him, and was apprehended just after crashing his vehicle into a nearby restaurant drive-thru and an additional restaurant, authorities said." Those state allegations include further history: "Lopez has two prior drug trafficking convictions in Yuma County. He served 3.5 years in prison after being convicted of attempted sale or transportation of narcotic drugs in August 2021 while on probation," and "The repeat offender was released from community supervision in May 2025, two months before committing this class two felony, authorities said."
Jurisdictional notes in the public record show multiple venues: the federal prosecution was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, while a short report indicates Lopez "was arrested and charged in Sequoyah County." A Justice Department headline and a social media post carry additional claims about flight from state charges; a Facebook excerpt reads, "An Arizona drug trafficker, who fled to Mexico after his arrest, is now headed to federal prison for 10 years. WHO: 30 year old Jose Ramon Lopez." The federal sentencing announcement itself did not detail whether Lopez fled to Mexico or how the Sequoyah County matter and alleged July 18, 2025 meth incident relate to the fentanyl plea.
The March 5, 2026 sentence to 120 months marks the most severe federal penalty public officials have tied to Lopez’s alleged trafficking activity spanning Arizona and Oklahoma. Court records in the Eastern District of Oklahoma will contain the plea agreement and judgment that specify the factual basis and sentencing calculations.
