Lewisburg Scratching Post Cat Café Spotlights Adoptions for International Rescue Cat Day
WNEP spotlighted the Scratching Post Cat Café in Lewisburg on March 2, 2026; about a dozen cats are available and the café has recorded more than 1,000 adoptions.

WNEP ran a feature from the Scratching Post Cat Café, 230 Market Street in Lewisburg, on March 2, 2026, using the international rescue-themed observance as the occasion to highlight adoptions. Founder Sarah Kline told the station the café usually has about 12 cats available for adoption and that the Scratching Post has facilitated more than 1,000 adoptions to date while operating as a local adoption platform.
Kline pointed to disparities in adoption rates at the café and singled out one long-staying cat by name. "They just don't seem to stand out, so Penny here is already spoken for. She is leaving for her forever home soon, but she's been here for three or four months. They just don't seem to find their forever as quickly, while the orange and the calicos and those types usually get adopted faster," said Kline in the WNEP piece, naming Penny as a plain brown tabby who was soon to go to a permanent home.
WNEP coverage and Cherished Cats Rescue Alliance materials describe the origin and medical status of the café's residents: all cats at the Scratching Post come through area rescues, with intake cases ranging from kittens born under sheds to surprise litters found in garages and cats surrendered when owners can no longer care for them. Kline told WNEP that some rescued cats are "good to go after a vet visit" while others require more medical attention; Cherished Cats' posted policy clarifies the Scratching Post does not accept cats or kittens directly from the public and places intake through partner rescues.
The Scratching Post is managed by Cherished Cats Rescue Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and operates as a 100 percent volunteer initiative. The café presents itself as a living-room-style adoption environment with comfortable seating and WiFi, where visitors pay a small admission fee to interact with adoptable cats in a relaxed setting rather than a traditional shelter environment.

Practical visiting and adoption details are posted on the Scratching Post site and reiterated in the feature: posted hours are Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the café closed Monday through Wednesday; patrons must be at least five years old and complete a waiver — waivers are available online or at the café and remain on file for one year. Prospective adopters are asked to submit an adoption application and are typically contacted within a few days; the café will arrange meetings outside posted hours for approved adopters when necessary.
Donations to support local feline rescue work are tax deductible and accepted via PayPal, by check mailed to Cherished Cats Rescue Alliance at 230 Market Street, Suite 1, Lewisburg, PA (marked for The Scratching Post), or through an Amazon wishlist; the café lists lewisburgscratchingpost@gmail.com as its contact email. The March 2, 2026 coverage framed International Cat Rescue Day as a moment to spotlight ongoing adoption needs in Lewisburg while underscoring the Scratching Post’s role as a persistent gateway between area rescues and more than 1,000 local homes.
