An armed vehicle standoff tied to the Dollar General on KY-293 south of Eddyville on Feb. 24 ended with the arrests of Thomas J. Prevatte, 46, and Angela F. Egbert, 48, both of Princeton, and new drug charges brought after a multi-day Lyon County Sheriff’s Office follow-up. WPSD reported that “Prevatte now faces additional charges of First-degree Trafficking Controlled Substance, (methamphetamine,) and the purchase or possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Egbert faces the same additional charges.”

Local reporting preserves a detailed citation of the roadside confrontation. According to the uniform citation reported by WNKY, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the Dollar General around 8:45 p.m., the truck tried to flee and attempted to ram a sheriff’s cruiser, and the sheriff held the vehicle in place. WNKY records that Prevatte “refused to exit the vehicle and brandished a gun,” “refused verbal commands to exit the vehicle for over an hour,” and “eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.” The citation also states Prevatte “admitted to the theft in this case and stated he had sold the items at a scrap yard.”

Investigators confirmed the vehicle the two were occupying was stolen and executed a search warrant on the truck during follow-up work. WPSD said LCSO’s Special Investigations Unit began continued investigative actions early the morning of Feb. 25 and worked into the overnight hours of Feb. 26, during which “additional evidence was collected from the scene and a search warrant was executed on the stolen vehicle that the suspects were occupying when they were arrested.”

PaxtonMedia published a broader criminal complaint for Prevatte that includes a large array of counts: first-degree ing/evading police (attempt); two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment; second-degree criminal mischief; third-degree terroristic threatening; third-degree criminal trespassing; auto theft by unlawful taking ($1,000-$10,000); theft by unlawful taking (complicity) ($1,000-$10,000); and multiple traffic violations including expired registration, no insurance, operating on a suspended or revoked license, and an alleged first-offense DUI - controlled substance. PaxtonMedia also reports Egbert faces third-degree criminal trespassing, auto theft by unlawful taking ($1,000-$10,000) and theft by unlawful taking (complicity) ($1,000-$10,000). PaxtonMedia adds that authorities say “the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending in Lyon and Caldwell counties.”

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office led the response and was assisted at the scene by Kentucky State Police, Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County EMS, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, according to PaxtonMedia. Both suspects remain booked at the Crittenden County Detention Center, and PaxtonMedia reports they were appointed public defenders with a preliminary hearing set for 8:30 a.m. on March 4. PaxtonMedia also notes LCSO determined Prevatte is wanted in McCracken County for failing to appear and for a probation violation.

Timing details vary in reports: WPSD says an off-duty deputy observed a suspect vehicle parked at the Dollar General around 4:39 p.m., while WNKY places the traffic stop attempt at about 8:45 p.m.; both timestamps are preserved in the record. The Lyon County investigation remains active as authorities pursue evidence tied to the stolen vehicle, alleged thefts, and the newly added meth trafficking and paraphernalia counts.
