Man charged after rape reports involving two teenagers in Great Yarmouth

A 34-year-old Great Yarmouth man has been charged after police investigated reports that two teenage girls were raped on South Beach Parade. Madalin Ilinca, a Romanian national of Stafford Road, Great Yarmouth, was stopped at the port of Dover as he re-entered the UK and then charged with one count of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault.

Norfolk Constabulary said the alleged attacks took place at 12.37am on Saturday 16 May 2026 on South Beach Parade, Great Yarmouth. Officers were called to the scene after reports that the girls had been raped, and a police cordon was put in place while inquiries were under way. That cordon has since been lifted.

Ilinca was due to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 June 2026. Police said a man aged in his 30s was first arrested in Northamptonshire on Sunday 17 May 2026 in connection with the same incident and was later released on police bail until 10 August 2026 while inquiries continued.

A second suspect remains outstanding. Police described him as a white man in his 30s or 40s, with short dark hair, dark facial hair, wearing blue jeans and a dark green jacket with a white stripe on both sleeves. Norfolk Constabulary said specialist officers were supporting both victims, and Chief Inspector Nick Paling said there would be increased police presence and reassurance patrols in the area.

Mr Paling said the incidents were “shocking and distressing” for the victims, their families and the wider community. Norfolk Police continues to appeal for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward, using crime reference 36/34665/26 as the key identifier for the case.
