Merrymeeting Bay Trout Unlimited Hosts Fly-Fishing and Fly-Tying Garage Sale Feb. 17
Merrymeeting Bay Trout Unlimited will host a fly-fishing and fly-tying garage sale Feb. 17 at Sea Dog Brewing, offering rods, reels, flies and estate-collection gear for local anglers.

The Merrymeeting Bay chapter of Trout Unlimited (Chapter #329) is staging what it calls a “first-ever Garage Sale for all things fly fishing – rods, reels, flies, fly-tying gear, and much more” on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The event is scheduled to run from 4:30–8:00 p.m. at Sea Dog Brewing in Topsham and will bring donated and estate-sourced equipment into a single local marketplace.
Organizers say the sale will include rods, reels, lines, flies and fly-tying gear, with some items coming from several estate collections. That concentration of used, often higher-quality equipment can lower the cost of entry for new anglers and provide upgrading opportunities for long-time fishers, while directing otherwise idle assets back into local circulation. Sea Dog Brewing’s location makes the garage sale part social gathering, part gear market — a pattern consistent with Merrymeeting Bay Trout Unlimited’s regular programming at the venue.
Merrymeeting Bay Trout Unlimited lays out a broader public-facing agenda beyond the garage sale. The chapter posts a schedule of free fly-casting instruction every Wednesday from 2:30–3:30 p.m. at the Brunswick Rec Center, 220 Neptune Drive, Brunswick Landing, saying: “Learn the graceful skill of casting a fly and get ready for the spring fishing season with free fly-casting instruction at the Brunswick Rec Center.” Monthly membership meetings are held at Sea Dog on the third Tuesday of each month, September through May; past programming included a social hour at 6 p.m. and presentations at 7 p.m., which were described as “free, open to members and non-members alike; dinner and drinks can be purchased.” Those recurring activities suggest the garage sale will dovetail with the chapter’s outreach and member services rather than being a standalone fundraiser.
As a nonprofit chapter affiliated with Trout Unlimited, Merrymeeting Bay Trout Unlimited frames its work through conservation goals: “Our mission is to conserve, protect, and restore our area’s cold-water resources and the watersheds on which they depend.” The chapter appears in Town of Brunswick records as active and in good standing within Trout Unlimited, with EIN 52-1491931. Chapter president Jeff Bush is listed as a local contact at 856-448-1925.

Several logistical details remain to be confirmed for shoppers and donors. Sources list Sea Dog’s address both as 1 Bowdoin Mill Island and as 1 Main St; the chapter and local press list Bowdoin Mill Island as the primary address. The event’s admission policy and whether proceeds will benefit Trout Unlimited conservation projects are not specified in the notices available to the public. For prospective buyers, sellers and volunteers, the chapter’s presence at Sea Dog and its regular instructions and meetings point to an accessible, community-oriented event; for Sea Dog, the gathering offers modest economic activity through food and drink purchases by attendees.
For Sagadahoc County residents, the garage sale is an opportunity to score equipment, declutter gear through donations and plug into local conservation work ahead of spring fishing season.
