Mojang Unveils Minecraft Dungeons 2 with Fall 2026 Launch Across All Major Platforms
Mojang Studios revealed Minecraft Dungeons 2 at Minecraft Live 2026, targeting a fall release on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Mojang Studios closed out its Minecraft Live 2026 livestream with its biggest announcement: Minecraft Dungeons 2, a full sequel to the 2020 action-RPG dungeon crawler, is coming this fall. Co-developed with Double Eleven and published by Xbox Game Studios, the title is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
The reveal arrived with an announcement teaser trailer and an official description from Xbox Game Studios that set an unmistakably high-stakes tone. "A hero's work is never done! Disorder is brewing, and the world stands before a threat unlike any other," the studio wrote. "Return to the world of Minecraft Dungeons in an all-new action RPG adventure, brimming with high-stakes encounters, thrilling challenges, and never-before-seen locations, as you set out to save a world in crisis."
The sequel promises a substantially larger scope than its predecessor. Mojang is pitching a bigger world, deeper gameplay systems, and an entirely new story built around a returning-hero premise: a world once saved from great evil finds itself threatened again. The trailer's imagery already has fans speculating about where the game will venture, with one notable shot appearing to show an activated Ancient City portal. That detail strongly suggests the introduction of a new dimension or underground realm, though Mojang has not officially confirmed any such mechanic.
Development on the sequel reportedly began in 2023, meaning the team has had roughly three years to build on the foundation of the original game. Exact pricing, multiplayer specifics, and the precise release date within the fall 2026 window have not been announced; Mojang has said more details will arrive in the coming months. Players can already add the game to their wishlist on the official website.
For Xbox subscribers, the game carries an additional financial incentive. According to GamingBolt, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one and will support Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning a single purchase grants access on both Xbox consoles and Windows PC.
The announcement served as the capstone of a packed Minecraft Live 2026 event. Earlier in the livestream, Mojang revealed a Minecraft World theme park coming to Chessington World of Adventures in the United Kingdom, named Argentina as the next destination for its traveling Minecraft Experience, and announced a Tiny Takeover update scheduled for March 24 introducing baby mobs and craftable name tags. A second game drop called Chaos Cubed was also detailed, featuring a new Sulfur Caves biome with new block types and environmental hazards.
The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in 2020 and carved out a dedicated player base by offering cooperative dungeon-crawling action within the familiar Minecraft visual language. Its sequel now arrives as the franchise continues to expand aggressively beyond the base game, with live events, theme park installations, and traveling experiences all underway simultaneously. Whether the sequel can convert that broadening audience into engaged players will depend largely on what Mojang reveals in the months ahead.
