Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office found multiple people dead inside a home on Fallcrest Circle in the Amberlea gated community after multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire, officials said. County deputies responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, and a weapon was recovered from the residence, law enforcement statements reported by local media said.

Sarasota County officials described the event as a shooting investigation and said it was an isolated incident that did not pose a continuing threat to the public. “It is currently a shooting investigation. We do have multiple persons involved,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson told WWSB/Gray News, adding, “And it appears that all of those persons are accounted for.” Sarasota officials also posted on social media that “Multiple victims are deceased. None of the victims have been identified,” according to Xinhua.

Fox News identified the location as the 4820 block of Fallcrest Circle, in the upscale, gated Amberlea subdivision in Sarasota County. FOX 13 cited Matt Binkley of the sheriff’s office saying, “We do have multiple victims in the house, and our crime scene forensics team is in there now.” First responders and forensics teams remained at the scene into the evening, with deputies in and out of the home for well over nine hours, FOX 13 reported.

Neighbors described shock and a swift law enforcement response. An unnamed resident told WWSB, “A little in shock. Happening right here in my neighborhood. And Amberlea is a safe community. I mean, it’s gated. And just people dying ... it’s horrible.” Neighbor David Hannon told FOX 13, “I heard 5 distinct sounds and I recognized as gunshots. Five seconds after that, I heard three more, which sounded like they were outside.” Hannon added, “I heard law enforcement from every direction converging on the neighborhood.”

Authorities restricted access to the subdivision during the response, checking identification at gates and maintaining a heavy presence around the scene. Several nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, local reporting said. WWSB noted the home had been the subject of two prior police calls, but said officials indicated the residence did not appear to be one that routinely required police services.

No arrests or suspect identifications had been announced as of the latest reports, and deputies have not released a motive. Officials have not provided a victim count; all outlets cited “multiple” or “several” victims and emphasized that identities had not been released.

The shooting joins a steady stream of lethal gun incidents nationally. Xinhua, citing the Gun Violence Archive, reported that the United States recorded 38,789 gun violence deaths and 407 mass shootings in 2025, underscoring the broader policy and public-safety debates that follow high-profile local incidents.

Beyond immediate grief and law enforcement activity, such events often prompt local discussions about school safety protocols, residential security measures, and the allocation of police and forensic resources. Neighbors and homeowners in gated communities may press for enhanced security or reassurances from law enforcement, and insurers and local real estate observers monitor whether perceptions of safety shift demand for housing in affected subdivisions.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office remains the primary source for updates; investigators have said the probe is ongoing. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office as they continue processing the scene and seek to clarify the circumstances that led to the deaths.
