Nightly northbound closure at Nāwiliwili and Kukui Grove for survey Feb. 17-20

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation says the northbound approach to the intersection of Nāwiliwili Road (Route 58) and Kukui Grove Street will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Feb. 17–20 for an underground survey in preparation for future sewer and water installation. HDOT labeled the work PUA LOKE (NIGHT WORK) and listed the closure as taking place between mile post 1.9 to 2.

HDOT provided the specific purpose: "The closure is necessary for crews to do an underground survey of utility infrastructure for future sewer and water installation at the intersection." The agency also said crews will work overnight so daytime traffic on Route 58 should not be affected by the survey operations.

Traffic will be routed around the closure via Halekō Road, and HDOT said drivers can expect flaggers on site and electronic signs informing motorists of the detour. "Traffic will be detoured to Halekō Road. Flaggers will be on-site and electronic signs will be posted," the department said, adding that the posted detour will be active during the 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. work window.

The department noted the scheduling change came after recent weather delays; HDOT said the original dates and times were delayed because of severe weather. HDOT also cautioned that "Work is weather permitting," leaving the overnight closures subject to further rescheduling if conditions deteriorate.

The list shows a single-lane shoulder reconstruction on Waimea Canyon Drive (Route 550) between mile post 4.6 to 11.5 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; a single-lane northbound closure of Kuamoo Road (Route 580) between mile post 0.0 to 4.5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for grass cutting; and an anchored wire mesh installation on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) near the Waikoko Bridge and Lumahai Beach.
