Five men were taken to hospital after a red Vauxhall Astra struck a group of pedestrians in Market Place, Arnold, leaving one man with life-threatening injuries and four others with less serious injuries.

Nottinghamshire Police said the collision happened at 1.12am on Saturday, 9 May 2026, after an altercation in Arnold town centre shortly before the car was driven at the group. Officers said the driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled on foot.

Police have identified a suspect, believed to be a white man, but have not yet located him. Nottinghamshire Police said Counter Terrorism Police are not involved and there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the wider public.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow said the incident was serious and would cause concern in the community. Officers are urging anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile-phone footage from the area, to come forward with information.

The closure zone stretched across Market Place and nearby roads, including the stretch from Gedling Road to Derby Street, as well as Hallam's Lane and Central Avenue, while officers continued their inquiries.

The attack on pedestrians in the town centre has put a spotlight on the narrow streets around Market Place in the early hours, when foot traffic, late-night vehicle movements and quick escape routes can complicate police work and increase the urgency of securing footage from homes and businesses nearby.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them under incident number 46 of 9 May 2026. The priority now is identifying the driver, establishing the full sequence of events before the collision, and tracing the vehicle’s movements after it was left behind in the street.
