One Dead, One Seriously Injured After Fiery Single-Vehicle Crash in NE Baltimore
A car struck a pole and erupted in flames near Hillen Road and E. Northern Parkway by Mt. Pleasant Park; one occupant died at the scene and a second was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
A fiery single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Hillen Road and East Northern Parkway left one person dead and another seriously injured after the car struck a pole and caught fire near Mt. Pleasant Park. Emergency crews extinguished the blaze and the intersection was shut down while investigators worked the scene.
Baltimore City Fire Department crews arrived at about 8:45 p.m. and found the vehicle on fire, officials said. The fire was quickly put out and crews attended to the two occupants — described by responders as the driver and a passenger. One person was pronounced dead at the scene; a second person was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones,” a spokesperson for the Baltimore Fire Department said.
Police and firefighters closed the Hillen Road and East Northern Parkway intersection to conduct a collision investigation and clear the wreckage. Investigators remain on scene and the cause of the crash is under review; traffic disruptions extended along the corridor while crews processed evidence and reopened lanes.
This single-vehicle pole strike is separate from an earlier, unrelated fatal collision on Hillen Road. On Sept. 5, officers responding to the 3900 block of Hillen Road found two vehicles in flames; a 53-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and a 39-year-old male driver later died at a hospital. The Accident Investigation Unit assumed control of that incident and police asked the public for tips as part of that investigation.
Baltimore police and fire officials have not released the names of the victims from the Hillen Road and E. Northern Parkway crash pending family notification and further investigative steps. Residents who travel through the Mt. Pleasant Park area or use Hillen Road should expect investigation-related lane closures when serious collisions occur at this intersection, and city crews may brief the public with more details once the investigation is complete.
