Pokémon Pokopia Launches on Nintendo Switch 2 as Ditto Builder
Nintendo has released Pokémon Pokopia as a Switch 2 exclusive, available digitally via the Nintendo eShop with a March 5, 2026 staggered midnight launch and pre-order price listed at $69.

Nintendo has released Pokémon Pokopia as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, available digitally through the Nintendo eShop with the publisher page listing the release date as 05/03/2026. The publisher description says: "Play as a Ditto to shape an empty land into a beautiful home for a variety of Pokémon. There’s so much to do, including collecting berries, rocks and wood, building furniture, growing vegetables in fields you’ve tilled, creating homes for Pokémon you meet, and more."
The game is positioned as the franchise's first full life-simulation entry while also borrowing puzzle elements; Polygon called Pokopia a "surprisingly deep" puzzle game with room "to play around and discover your own answer." Early critical response is strong: Vice reported that Pokopia is "already the highest-reviewed Pokémon game since 2022’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus" and "the first Pokémon game to net a 90 rating on Metacritic," while noting that "that overall score could drop when more reviews come in."
Release timing is staggered by time zone rather than a single global timestamp. Polygon and IGN note Nintendo eShop launches typically hit midnight in the easternmost time zone of a region—12 a.m. on March 5 in New York versus 9 p.m. PST on March 4 in San Francisco. IGN reminded readers that "You can also technically play it early if you choose an earlier timezone, but that requires you to have an account in that region, and you'll need to buy it from that region's eShop, too." Vice published an anomalous February 5 date; Nintendo’s eShop listing and coverage from CNN, IGN and Polygon align on a March 5 release date, making the February date likely an error.
Pre-order and preload mechanics mirror standard eShop practice. Vice laid out steps to pre-order: go to the Nintendo eShop, click the pre-order button and purchase Pokémon Pokopia for $69, and the game will automatically download to the console linked to the purchaser's Nintendo Account. Nintendo’s eShop text adds that the system must be updated to the latest system software, connected to the internet with automatic downloads enabled, and have enough storage to complete the download; "Additional storage may be required to download software from Nintendo eShop."

The title supports Handheld, Tabletop and TV modes, offers online play and Save Data Cloud features, lists languages including Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean and Chinese, carries a PEGI 3 rating and includes in-game purchases. Polygon reported that Nintendo demonstrated a GameShare feature during a Treehouse special that lets a Switch 2 stream Pokopia locally to an original Switch nearby.
Retail pre-order incentives vary: Polygon lists an in-game Ditto rug for Nintendo eShop and Target pre-orders, an in-game flat-leaf plant from Amazon pre-orders, and a Pokopia-themed canvas tote from Best Buy as a physical exclusive. CNN underscored the hardware hurdle, writing that "It’s only available on the new Nintendo Switch 2" and adding that "it’s a tough sell for me to sit here and tell you to go out and spend $449 on a new console just to play Pokémon Pokopia." The combination of strong early reviews and Switch 2 exclusivity makes Pokopia a high-profile launch whose adoption in workplaces and friend groups will hinge on who upgrades to the new hardware.
