Police launch murder probe after Tyler Fairman dies from collision injuries
Police have opened a murder inquiry after Tyler Fairman, 26, died days after a red Vauxhall Astra struck five pedestrians in Arnold. A 40-year-old man is already charged with attempted murder.

Police have launched a murder investigation after Tyler Fairman died in hospital from injuries suffered when a car struck five pedestrians in Arnold, Nottinghamshire. The 26-year-old was among the group hit by a red Vauxhall Astra in Market Place, turning a late-night collision into a homicide probe.
Nottinghamshire Police said the vehicle mounted the kerb and hit pedestrians at about 1.12am on Saturday 9 May 2026, after an earlier altercation in the town centre a short time before the collision. Fairman sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on Tuesday 12 May 2026. Police have said specialist officers are supporting those affected by the incident.

The case had already led to charges before Fairman’s death. Duane Anthony, 40, was arrested and charged on Monday 11 May 2026 with five counts of attempted murder, as well as aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without valid insurance. He is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 June 2026.
Detectives are now treating the case as a murder inquiry because one of the pedestrians has died after the original collision. The shift in the investigation reflects the severity of the injuries and the central question hanging over the case: whether the vehicle was driven into the crowd deliberately after the disturbance that preceded it.
The incident has also renewed scrutiny of how quickly a town-centre street can become the scene of a mass casualty attack when a vehicle leaves the road and enters a pedestrian area. Five people were struck in Market Place, and the police account links the collision to a confrontation in the town centre shortly beforehand. With one victim dead and another court date set for June, investigators now face both the criminal case and the wider public-safety consequences of a vehicle being driven into a group of people in the middle of the night.
