Public Comment Period Opens for Amcor Flexibles Title V Permit in Asheville
A public comment period is under way for Amcor Flexibles' Title V permit renewal in Asheville, giving residents a chance to review permit materials and influence local air quality decisions.

A public comment period opened January 20 for Amcor Flexibles, Inc.'s renewal of its Title V Operation Permit for the facility at 3055 Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. The Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency posted notice of its intent to issue the permit, permit number 11-539-26, and said the public comment period will run through February 19, 2026. All comments received prior to that date will be considered in the final determinations regarding the permit.
The company applied for a renewal that the agency says meets the requirements specified in AB Air Quality Code 17.0500. The agency invited written comments and formal requests for a public hearing. Requests for a public hearing must be submitted in writing and include a statement supporting the need for such a hearing, an indication of the requestor's interest in the facility, and a brief summary of the information intended to be offered at the hearing. The Director of AB Air Quality may schedule a public hearing if the director determines that significant public interest exists or that the public interest will be served.
This administrative step matters to Buncombe County residents because Title V permitting is a key regulatory point where operational limits, monitoring, and reporting requirements are reviewed and set. Neighbors near Sweeten Creek Road, community organizations tracking industrial emissions, and local officials responsible for public health and land use will be directly affected by the outcome of the renewal. Public involvement at this stage can influence permit conditions and add transparency to agency decisions.
Residents who want to weigh in must submit written comments postmarked no later than February 19, 2026, to Ashley Featherstone, AB Air Quality, P.O. Box 2749, Asheville, North Carolina 28802, or email comments to [email protected]. Interested persons may obtain copies of the permit, the application, and supporting materials by writing to the same address or calling 828-250-6777. Paper materials are available for review during normal business hours at the AB Air Quality office at 35 Woodfin Street; callers can request appointment information.
This is an opportunity for Buncombe County voters and civic groups to participate directly in a regulatory decision that affects local air quality and industrial accountability. Submit comments or a hearing request by February 19, review the permit materials at 35 Woodfin Street, or call 828-250-6777 to ensure your concerns are part of the agency record before the final permit decision.
