Resident Evil Requiem Sells Five Million Copies Worldwide in Under a Week
Capcom says Resident Evil Requiem sold over 5 million copies worldwide in less than a week after its Feb 27, 2026 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

Capcom announced on March 4, 2026 that Resident Evil Requiem "surpasses 5 million units" worldwide less than a week after its February 27, 2026 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The company led its investor relations release with the headline "Resident Evil Requiem Surpasses 5 Million Units! - Worldwide acclaim contributed to strong sales -" and described the figure as an all-platform total.
The milestone sits against a long-running franchise track record: Capcom said cumulative Resident Evil sales exceeded 183 million units as of December 31, 2025. Capcom also listed the series' top sellers, naming Resident Evil 2 (2019) at 16.8 million units, Resident Evil 7 at 16.4 million units, and Resident Evil Village at 13.5 million units.
Industry outlets framed Requiem's pace as exceptional compared with recent entries. Eurogamer summed up the scale in short form: "Resident Evil Requiem has already surpassed 5m sales. That's 5m copies sold in less than a week." Video Games Chronicle called the launch "likely the series’ biggest launch ever" and "certainly the fastest-selling of any modern title," while noting the game had been tracking strongly since its announcement last summer.

Capcom highlighted the technical work behind the launch, saying Resident Evil Requiem "was developed using RE ENGINE, Capcom’s proprietary game engine, which allowed the company to deliver visuals in photorealistic detail, including the characters’ skin, teary eyes, and flowing hair, as well as the translucency of light." The publisher tied those visuals and pre-release awards at tradeshows to the "worldwide acclaim" it credited for robust early sales.
Capcom also emphasized accessibility and player options in its product details, stating the title "offers a new game experience for a broad fanbase through multiple difficulty settings that accommodate everyone from newcomers to experienced players, as well as allowing players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in real-time." Those features were repeatedly noted in outlet coverage alongside the engine praise.

Platform-level breakdowns remain unavailable. Nintendo Life explicitly wrote, "We’re not sure what the platform split is for this running total," while also pointing out the combined Switch 2 release included a standalone game and a Generation Pack bundle that could have aided Switch 2 sales. Nintendo Everything reproduced Capcom’s announcement and included a trailer link, noting the title "just launched on Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms last Friday."
Critical reception and marketing momentum tracked with the sales milestone. Nintendo Life's review excerpt described the game as "an experience paced to perfection" while also calling the lack of a Mercenaries mode "somewhat disappointing" and speculating it could appear as DLC. Video Games Chronicle and Eurogamer linked the strong launch to the series' 30th anniversary and nostalgia-driven demand. Capcom closed its announcement by reiterating its development strategy: "Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.
