Roseburg to cut ribbon on $2.5M Stewart Park tennis and pickleball facility
Roseburg will celebrate a $2.5 million renovation with a ribbon-cutting at Stewart Park at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, unveiling eight renovated tennis courts and 10 dedicated pickleball courts.

Roseburg will mark the grand opening of its newly renovated outdoor tennis and pickleball complex with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Stewart Park, adjacent to the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center on Northwest Stewart Parkway. The project is described by city officials as a $2.5 million investment that replaces courts that were more than 50 years old.
The outdoor area now features eight renovated tennis courts and 10 dedicated pickleball courts, plus new fencing, seating, an improved entryway and a new security system. New lighting is visible on the north section of the courts in photos dated October 2025, and resurfacing work used a Plexipave application in September 2025, documented in images titled Plexipaving Pickleball & Shadow 9-22-25.JPG and Worker Smooths Plexipave 9-23-25.JPG.
Funding for the renovation combined multiple streams: a $750,000 state grant secured by Roseburg Parks and Recreation Program Manager Val Ligon, $523,000 in city funds and $1.1 million in matching community funds raised by the nonprofit Umpqua Valley Tennis Center. Those three components total $2,373,000; city materials and local reporting describe the overall project as a $2.5 million effort.
Access and pricing are being kept deliberately affordable. Adults will continue to pay just $2 to use the courts, while youth aged 18 or under always play for free. The Umpqua Valley Tennis Center will also offer a month-to-month outdoor-only membership for non-members for $25 for adults and $45 for households, with no annual commitment. Players are asked to bring their own rackets and balls, and the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center posts class and tournament information on its website.

Val Ligon framed the opening around strong community demand and heavy use: “We’re anticipating it will be so busy that a schedule will need to be put into place. There’s a lot of excitement about the new courts, and people want to get out there and play.” Ligon secured the state grant that helped make the rebuild possible and has been identified by city officials as a point contact for the parks program.
City social media posts and the municipal invitation encourage the public to attend the March 5 ceremony at Stewart Park. Photographs taken during construction and final work — including Plexipave resurfacing images from September 2025 and lighting photos from October 2025 — document the timeline and the new facilities. Expect organizers and the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center to finalize any scheduling or membership mechanics after the ribbon-cutting; until then, note the ceremony start time of 3:30 p.m. March 5 and bring rackets and balls if you plan to play.
