Storage Wars star Darrell Sheets, known as The Gambler, dies at 67
Darrell Sheets, the auction risk-taker known as The Gambler, died in Lake Havasu City at 67 after 163 episodes made him one of reality TV’s early faces.

Darrell Sheets, the long-running face of Storage Wars who turned storage-auction brinkmanship into cable-era celebrity, died Wednesday in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at 67. Police responded to his home around 2 a.m., and multiple outlets reported the death appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lake Havasu City police said the case remained under active investigation.
Sheets became one of the franchise’s most recognizable personalities as Storage Wars premiered in 2010 and helped turn ordinary auction rooms into prime-time spectacle. Variety said he appeared in 163 episodes, while A&E’s cast bio said he had been involved in storage auctions for 32 years and was known for going after the “big hit.” That mix of risk, spectacle and working-class hustle made him emblematic of the early reality-TV boom, when cable found durable stars in people whose livelihoods were built on side bets, resale and nerve.
Born May 13, 1958, in California, Sheets was widely associated with his son, Brandon Sheets, on the show, giving the franchise a family dimension that fit its rough-edged appeal. IMDb lists Kimber Wuerf as a former spouse. His public persona, built around the nickname The Gambler, rested on the idea that one good bid could pay off in a single haul, an approach that kept viewers watching and rivals guessing.
News of his death drew swift reactions from former cast members. René Nezhoda said on social media that Sheets had been tormented by cyberbullies, and Brandi Passante also shared condolences after learning of the news. For a generation that saw reality television move from novelty to fixture, Sheets was part of the cohort that made everyday trades, bargains and hustles into national entertainment, and his death closes a chapter on one of Storage Wars’ most familiar early figures.
