Teenage boy dies after stabbing in Luton, murder probe launched

A 17-year-old boy died after being taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds in Luton, prompting Bedfordshire Police to open a murder investigation. Detectives from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit are leading the inquiry and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Bedfordshire Police said the teenager was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital. A 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed on Stoneygate Road in Luton in June 2021, and Thomas Taylor, 17, was stabbed to death outside Bedford bus station on 8 January 2025. In that earlier case, a teenager later admitted manslaughter in connection with Taylor’s death.

The repeated cases have kept Bedfordshire under scrutiny for how it confronts youth knife violence outside London, where the national debate often concentrates on the capital while towns such as Luton and Bedford absorb the consequences. The new death points again to the same hard question facing police, schools and local services: whether warning signs are being identified early enough to stop teenagers from carrying knives and to prevent attacks before they turn fatal.
