Third-generation Russakoff Jewelers shifts Skowhegan shop to semi-retired focus
After 119 years, third-generation owners Andy and Donna Russakoff are moving Russakoff Jewelers at 100 Water St., Skowhegan, to a semi-retired model - open Fridays 10 a.m.–4 p.m., custom and repairs by appointment.

Andy and Donna Russakoff announced a shift in how they will run Russakoff Jewelers, saying, “Time for a change - after 119 years Donna & I have decided to change our retail business into a semi-retired concept.” The third-generation family business at 100 Water Street in downtown Skowhegan will reduce its showroom presence to Fridays only, operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while continuing to provide custom bridal work and full-service repairs by appointment.
During the new Friday hours the shop will handle watch battery replacements and repair drop-offs and pick-ups, and customers may schedule appointments for other times if needed. “Custom work can be done by appointment to pay close attention to detail and give you the personal service you deserve,” the owners wrote, signaling that bespoke engagement rings and bridal commissions will remain a core offering even as retail foot traffic slows.
Andy Russakoff will continue performing in-house repairs, maintaining the shop’s bench skills. “We will still be doing full-service jewelry repair where everything is done in-house by your jeweler,” the Russakoffs wrote, underscoring continuity in craftsmanship for watch servicing, resizing, and restorations that have been done at the bench for decades.
Russakoff Jewelers traces its origins to 1907 and marks 119 years of operation this year. Although it was one of four jewelry stores in Skowhegan when it opened, it is now the town’s only jewelry store, a position the owners say carries responsibility. “We understand it is a privilege to be part of our community for 119 years, and counting; we are fortunate to have the strong support of our town,” Russakoff said, noting that Skowhegan’s role as the shiretown of Somerset County brings customers from northern towns as far away as Jackman.

Succession remains unsettled: there is currently no fourth generation ready to take over, and the Russakoffs said their plan is to keep working in semiretirement for the foreseeable future. “Our plan is to continue working in our semiretirement status for the foreseeable future. Keeping Russakoff Jewelers in the family is important to us,” he said.
Customers reflected the shop’s multi-generational ties. Ricky said he was “proud to be able to buy his wedding rings from Russakoff’s, like his parents and his grandparents.” Susan shared, “the very first piece of jewelry my husband gave me came from you, and I treasure it.” Olive added, “if I needed something truly special, there was only one place I would go.” The owners thanked patrons for their response and wrote, “Donna and I were humbled by the overwhelming response to our semi-retirement. We look forward to spending more time with our grandchildren, having the flexibility to pursue our passions and enjoy life to the fullest.”
