Tom Holland Teases Emotional, Grown-Up Spider-Man: Brand New Day at CinemaCon
Tom Holland told CinemaCon exhibitors Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Peter Parker’s most emotional, most grown-up chapter yet.
Sony Pictures used CinemaCon to put Peter Parker’s next chapter on display, pairing new Spider-Man: Brand New Day footage with a virtual appearance from Tom Holland that set a distinctly older tone for the franchise. Speaking by video to exhibitors at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Monday, Holland described the film as “the most emotional” and “the most grown-up” Spider-Man movie yet.
The new film picks up four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, after Peter erased himself from the memories of everyone he loves. Sony says Peter is now living entirely alone, crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name. The studio’s synopsis also says the strain of that life sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, while a strange new pattern of crimes leads toward one of Peter’s most powerful threats yet.
Reported footage sharpened that isolation in a more intimate way. In one scene, Peter attends a housewarming party for MJ and Ned and introduces himself as “Maynard,” a neighbor from across the hall. The moment plays like a blunt reminder of the cost of the memory wipe that closed No Way Home, when Peter asked Doctor Strange to erase his identity from everyone’s memory in order to resolve the multiverse crisis.
Sony also unveiled two new posters for the movie during its presentation. The studio is framing Brand New Day as an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man after the record-breaking success of No Way Home, and as Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man feature. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the film.
Sony’s cast list includes Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. The film is scheduled to reach theaters on July 31, 2026, giving the franchise a summer launch pad for a story built around memory loss, loneliness and a Peter Parker who is forced to live with the consequences of his own sacrifice.
