Brian Formato, who backed Waydoo’s 2020 Kickstarter as backer number 52 and has ridden the original Flyer One more than 200 times, says the Waydoo Flyer EVO “provides 2 hours of ride time and the range is over 20 miles on a single charge.” Formato has ridden the EVO five times and rode it with two other experienced friends; he also reports a measured 21 mph at gear 14 of 24 and says he is “confident that the EVO configuration I have will go at least 25mph and can probably go 30mph,” while noting he has not checked top speed.

Fit and finish and component integration are a clear focus on the EVO. Formato writes “The fit and finish is much improved,” and calls the update “An amazingly great update. The Waydoo EVO is Way-Better.” Video coverage from Aaron of Elite WaterSports on February 27, 2026, walks through the new Flyer EVO platform and highlights self-leveling flight as a notable feature in the product tour.

Battery and charging receive the boldest numerical claim among first-ride impressions. Formato describes a PowerFlight battery and Waydoo EVO charger and asserts the new battery “more than doubles the time and distance range of the Waydoo Flyer One.” No manufacturer watt-hour figure or charge-time specification appears in the available ride reports and videos, leaving the 2-hour and >20-mile claim reported but not independently verified with technical specs.

Group testing by Mackiteboarding flagged a different tradeoff: markedly higher torque from the EVO’s performance motor. Mackiteboarding wrote, “One downside we found with the new performance motor is just how much torque it has.” Their testers added, “While you're first adjusting to the board or changing speeds, it's quite noticeable. On the Flyer One you could feel the change in speed, but you didn't have to compensate by shifting your body position. On the Evo, you will.” They also observed that riders, including a tester named Jake, “found himself riding at a lower speed than he would on the Flyer One Plus, as did a lot of the other guys.”

The EVO’s standard board volume has shifted downward from past Waydoo kit, and that affects stability and carving. Mackiteboarding reports “The 90L board that comes standard with the Evo isn't quite as stable and easy to get up on as the 110L that came with the Flyer One Plus,” but adds that “once you are up, it feels more locked in and is easier to lean into the turns and carve, so overall it's a great change.” Mackiteboarding also notes that “the wings for the Evo are very similar to the Flyer One Plus” and that future wing options will include fiberglass and carbon.

On choices and target riders, Formato recommends the EVO for newcomers who want a platform to grow on: “For those looking to get into the sport with an efoil that can grow along with their skill level I highly recommend the Waydoo EVO.” Mackiteboarding urges cruisers to consider the standard motor: “However, if you're more of a cruiser, the standard motor will be plenty powerful and will save you some money and battery runtime.”

A dealer-facing video from MACkiteboarding (15:02 runtime, roughly 10,000 views) links to a product page for ordering the Waydoo Flyer One EVO, while Mackiteboarding mentions an upcoming enclosed propulsion unit for markets with prop restrictions, citing Canada as an example where exposed props can be an issue. Missing from the current ride pieces are definitive manufacturer specs such as battery watt-hours, motor kW and torque numbers, charger output and official top-speed claims; those items remain to be confirmed by Waydoo for full technical verification.
