Amerks amend clear bag policy to allow diaper bags at games
Rochester Americans and VenuWorks amended the Blue Cross Arena clear bag policy to permit diaper bags at Amerks home games. The change eases entry for families while keeping security measures in place.

The Rochester Americans and venue operator VenuWorks updated the Blue Cross Arena clear bag policy to allow diaper bags at Amerks home games, a change that took effect immediately and applied beginning with the Jan. 14 matchup against the Syracuse Crunch. The move aims to make family attendance easier while keeping metal detector screening and item searches intact.
Under the revised policy, each guest may carry one clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag such as a Ziploc. In addition to an approved clear bag, guests may bring a small clutch purse no larger than 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a handle, subject to search. Diaper bags are now accepted but will undergo thorough inspection, and patrons carrying a diaper bag must have a child present.
Security procedures remain strict. Metal detector screening and searches of carried items will continue at arena entrances, and there is no bag check available; prohibited items must be returned to vehicles before entry. Blankets and small approved cameras, binoculars, and cell phones are permitted if carried loosely or inside an approved clear bag.
This change matters for parents and caregivers who have been balancing game-day logistics with league and arena security standards. Allowing diaper bags recognizes the realities of bringing young children to the arena while keeping a consistent, transparent standard for all guests. It also aligns the Amerks’ entry rules with practices used at regional and major venues, preserving the balance between fan convenience and public safety.
Practical takeaways for fans: if you plan to bring a diaper bag, bring the child it’s intended for and be prepared for a detailed inspection at the gate. Pack essentials in the diaper bag but limit other carried items to what fits in the approved clear bag or the small clutch. Since there’s no bag check, plan to leave anything prohibited in your vehicle before arriving. Expect standard metal detector screening and allow a little extra time at entry on game nights.
For families and regular attendees, this update removes one barrier to bringing kids to Amerks games without sacrificing security protocols. Going forward, arrive early, streamline what you bring, and enjoy the game, pucks and pacifiers both welcome, as long as they pass inspection.
