Amerks Host Desperate Belleville Squad in Season-Defining Friday Showdown

The Rochester Americans and Belleville Senators met Friday night at Blue Cross Arena for the eighth and final time this season, closing a season series that carried more weight than most. Rochester arrived at 28-26-5-4, needing a combined 10 points gained and/or surrendered by Belleville and Utica to lock up a Calder Cup Playoff berth for a fifth straight year. Rochester's offensive case rested heavily on Arthur Kaliyev, who entered Friday leading the entire American Hockey League with 36 goals through 63 games, a margin of five or more over his nearest competition. The Senators arrived having not played in nearly a week, using that rest to blank Manitoba 5-0 before dropping a 1-0 shutout loss the following evening.
