Bridgeport Islanders Edge Hershey Bears 4-3 in Crucial Shootout Win

Down two goals after a first period they'd sooner forget, the Bridgeport Islanders clawed back from a 3-1 deficit in the second and then finished the job in the shootout, beating the Hershey Bears 4-3 in Game 60 at Total Mortgage Arena. The win, described as crucial in a tight playoff race, came on a night loaded with meaning: bobblehead giveaways, the final Sound Tigers Saturday of the season, and the professional debut of Cole Eiserman, who had signed with the organization just days earlier.

The first period belonged entirely to Hershey. Andrew Cristall opened the scoring just 1:21 into the game, walking down the wing and beating Henrik Tikkanen with a quick shot. Sonny Milano extended the lead later in the period, roofing a backhand to push it to 2-0. Bridgeport generated almost nothing offensively and headed into the intermission with little to show for the opening frame.

The second period was a different team. Liam Foudy got Bridgeport on the board by knocking down a puck and firing it five-hole, cutting the deficit in half. Hershey answered quickly through Ilya Protas, who slipped one past Tikkanen to restore a two-goal cushion at 3-1. But the Islanders refused to let the game slip away. Late in the period, Matthew Highmore shoveled a shot over Mitch Gibson off a beautiful feed from Matt Luff, pulling Bridgeport within one at 3-2 and giving the home side momentum heading into the third.

No team found the net in regulation, sending the game to a shootout. There, the Islanders delivered, with multiple clutch shootout goals and saves securing the 4-3 victory. Gibson, a former Harvard standout, and Tikkanen both had strong showings between the pipes, but the shootout ultimately favored Bridgeport.
