Charlotte Checkers-Hartford Game Postponed to Monday Noon After Roof Leaks
Charlotte's scheduled 4:00 p.m. Checkers-Wolf Pack game was postponed at Bojangles Coliseum after roof leaks made the ice unsafe; the game is now set for Monday, Feb. 16 at 12:00 p.m. and Sunday tickets will be honored.

The American Hockey League, the Charlotte Checkers and the Hartford Wolf Pack jointly announced on February 15 that the Sunday 4:00 p.m. matchup at Bojangles Coliseum was postponed because roof leaks left the playing surface unsafe; the game will be made up Monday, Feb. 16 at 12:00 p.m., and all tickets for the original Sunday session will be honored.
The Checkers’ official statement made the operational impact clear: “Due to unsafe playing conditions caused by roof leaks at Bojangles Coliseum, today’s scheduled 4 p.m. game against the Hartford Wolf Pack has been postponed to Monday, Feb. 16, at 12 p.m.” The team also reiterated ticketing logistics: “All orginal tickets for the originally scheduled Sunday game will work for entry on Monday - Sunday ticketholders will not be issued new tickets. All ticketholders for Sunday will receive information from the Checkers about exchange opportunities should they no longer be able to attend.”
Facility operators with the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority described an immediate technical response. “Arena operations and engineering teams immediately began evaluating the affected area and are actively addressing the issue. The specific source remains under review. [...] Our priority is supporting the Checkers and preparing the facility for upcoming events. The safety of players, staff and guests is always our top priority. We appreciate the patience of fans and partners and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Coliseum soon,” CRVA said, while local coverage added that “the source of the leak is still not known.”
Fans on site reported visible measures to protect the ice and frustration with communications. Queen City News documented that a message on the scoreboard notified attendees of the postponement, and staff placed a tarp over the ice with trash cans spaced to catch water before fans left. An unnamed fan said, “There was a little bit of confusion because they really weren’t saying why it was being postponed.” Fan Nick Capuzzi described the exit: “It was a bunch of traffic, and it was all packed,” and “No one told us anything. It was a bunch of chaos, I felt like.” Reporters saw a worker inspecting a specific roof area when fans returned for the make-up game.

The postponement lands against a broader maintenance backdrop for the 70-year-old Bojangles Coliseum. Queen City News reported city budget lines showing maintenance funding at Ovens Auditorium and Bojangles rising to $5 million for 2026, up from $2.4 million in 2024 and described as a 42.9 percent increase from 2025; CRVA also hired architects in 2024 to study renovation options, with results not yet released.
WFAE summarized the practical follow-up for fans: “The game against the Hartford Wolfpack will be made up Monday at noon. All tickets for the originally scheduled Sunday game will be honored. The team says those unable to attend should contact them for an exchange.” With the noon puck drop set for Monday and engineering teams still diagnosing the leak, the Checkers, CRVA and city budget figures now sit at the center of questions about how the aging Coliseum will handle weather and infrastructure strain going forward.
