Firkus, Morrison and Nyman each record multiple points, Firebirds win 4-2

Coachella Valley’s top line carried the load as the Firebirds beat the Calgary Wranglers 4-2 at Acrisure Arena, with Jagger Firkus, Logan Morrison and Jani Nyman each notching multi-point performances. Logan Morrison opened the scoring at 7:19 of the first period for his 25th goal of the season, Jani Nyman struck in the opening minute of the second period, and Jagger Firkus made it 3-0 at 8:48 of the middle frame with his 20th goal.

The early 3-0 cushion proved decisive despite a furious Calgary response late in the second. The Firebirds got out to a 3-0 lead halfway through the second period, and then Calgary scored twice in a 27 second span in the closing minutes of the second period to pull within one, injecting momentum into the visitors heading to the second intermission.

Coachella Valley answered that momentum swing in the third period when Gustav Olofsson capped an odd-man rush at 8:38, the play set up by Oscar Fisker Molgaard. Gustav Olofsson’s goal was his third of the season and functioned as the insurance marker that ultimately preserved the 4-2 final score.

The victory not only pushed individual milestones — Morrison to 25 goals and Firkus to 20 — it also reinforced the line’s role as the engine for a Seattle Kraken affiliate squad seeking consistency down the stretch of the AHL season.

The Firebirds will host a rematch with the Calgary Wranglers Sunday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m., billed as Teachers Appreciation Night, presented by the Walter Clark Legal Group. The club will partner with the Riverside County Office of Education’s "Read with Me" program to hand out free books at every entrance prior to the game to promote literacy, and is offering Gold Medal Seats tickets for $20.26 with the code "GOLD" on Ticketmaster and CVFirebirds.com. A box office notice accompanying the team’s game materials read, "Box Office Open Saturday (3/7) & Sunday (3/10) from 10am - to the end of the second period."

With Morrison, Firkus and Nyman all contributing multi-point efforts and Olofsson providing the late insurance, the Firebirds closed out Saturday’s game protecting a two-goal margin and will return to Acrisure Arena Sunday to see if the top line can sustain the form that produced the 4-2 victory.
