The Philadelphia Flyers locked up one of their more intriguing offensive prospects, signing forward Noah Powell to a three-year entry-level contract set to begin with the 2026-27 season. To get Powell into the professional system immediately, the organization assigned him to AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign, framing the move as part of their prospect development push following the trade deadline.

Powell, a fifth-round pick at 148th overall, brings a scoring pedigree that made him stand out well before Philadelphia committed to him on paper. With the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL, he led the entire league in scoring, posting 43 goals and 74 points across 61 games while also topping his own team in goals. Those are numbers that turn heads at any level of amateur hockey.

His path since that USHL breakout has been more measured. Powell moved on to Ohio State, where he tallied five points in 17 games, a modest return that reflects the jump in competition rather than any regression in his game. He also signed an OHL Scholarship and Development agreement with the Oshawa Generals, adding another developmental strand to an already varied hockey resume. Powell turned 20 on February 2, 2025, and that birthday milestone had analysts anticipating an ELC offer from Philadelphia in the near term.

The attitude Powell brings to the process appears to match the work ethic that produced his USHL numbers. "Sometimes it's just kind of double checking with the coaches or one of the guys around and really kind of paying attention," Powell said. "I've really got to focus in and make sure I'm hearing what they're saying so I can go out and execute." Jamey Baskow of FlyersNittyGritty, who has tracked Powell's development closely, summed up his demeanor simply: "This young man just continues to smile and it's infectious."

With the ELC technically beginning in 2026-27, the immediate assignment to Lehigh Valley gives Powell a chance to acclimate to the professional game on a Phantoms roster still pushing through the back half of this season. The Flyers will be watching closely to see whether the forward who once torched USHL defenses can translate that instinct to the AHL level.
