HARTFORD, CT

Hartford heads into a back-to-back weekend with a simple mandate: stop the slide. The club will welcome the Bridgeport Islanders to town for the "Battle of Connecticut" on Friday night, then trek up I-91 to battle the Springfield Thunderbirds in the "I-91 Rivalry" on Saturday evening. The club will look to snap a two-game losing skid after a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday night.

The skid follows a mixed week that began with a tight divisional win and turned ugly against Toronto and Charlotte. On January 23, Hartford beat Bridgeport 3-2 in the Battle of Connecticut. Liam Foudy opened the scoring for the Islanders at 6:47 with a power-play backhand that "would break the ice." Juuso Pärssinen tied it at 7:53 and Brendan Brisson put Hartford ahead at 10:55 from the left-wing circle. Justin Dowling delivered the eventual game-winning goal with an empty-netter at 18:23 of the third period while Chris Terry scored late for Bridgeport. Dylan Garand slammed the door shut from there. Oursportscentral also credited Trey Fix-Wolansky with two assists in that victory.

The next night Hartford dropped a 4-1 decision to the Toronto Marlies. Vinni Lettieri scored at 3:10 of the first period, marking his ninth goal of the season. Cédric Paré made it 2-0 at 9:30 when he tapped home a Logan Shaw pass on the power play from the top of the crease; that goal "would stand as the eventual game-winning tally." Brendan Brisson pulled Hartford to 2-1 with his eleventh goal of the season at 17:47, but Toronto struck twice in 19 seconds early in the second. Matthew Barbolini scored at 2:24 and Ryan Tverberg followed at 2:43 with a wraparound attempt to make it 4-1.

Charlotte emphatically closed out the week with a 7-1 victory on January 28, leaving Hartford searching for answers across the roster and on the scoresheet. The 7-1 final was the catalyst for the two-game skid that Hartford now aims to end with the Bridgeport and Springfield matchups.
