Laval blanks Toronto 4-0, forces decisive Game 5 in North semifinal
Samuel Blais scored twice and Kaapo Kähkönen stopped 18 shots as Laval reset the series with a 4-0 shutout and sent Toronto back to Laval for Game 5.

Laval answered two straight losses with its cleanest road game of the series, blanking Toronto 4-0 at Coca-Cola Coliseum and forcing a winner-take-all Game 5 in the North Division semifinal. Samuel Blais scored twice, Kaapo Kähkönen made 18 saves for his second career playoff shutout, and the Rocket imposed the slower, tighter game they needed after being run off the ice in the previous two meetings.
The tone changed almost immediately. Alex Belzile scored 46 seconds into the game, giving Laval the early lead it had lacked while Toronto was building momentum in the series. Laurent Dauphin then added a shorthanded goal and finished with two assists, turning the middle of the game into a showcase for Laval’s top end. Blais added the separation with his pair of goals, giving the Rocket a cushion Toronto never threatened to erase.
That mattered because the Marlies had controlled the series’ recent stretch with a 6-2 win in Game 2 and another 6-2 win in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead. Toronto had scored 11 consecutive goals across 81:05 of game time after falling behind 2-0 early in Game 2, but Laval cut off that run by returning the matchup to structure and discipline. Instead of another track meet, the Rocket turned the night into a defensive grind that fit their identity and protected Kähkönen in front of a much steadier five-man shape.

Toronto’s goaltending changed in the middle of the loss. Artur Akhtyamov allowed three goals on 25 shots through the first two periods before Dennis Hildeby took over for the third and made six saves. Neither move altered the result, and the Marlies were denied the chance to close out the series at home after briefly moving ahead 2-1. The pressure now shifts to Saturday afternoon in Laval, where the Rocket will host Game 5 after splitting the first four games, opening with a 3-1 win at Place Bell, then surviving the two Toronto blowouts to reset the series on their own terms.
