Lehigh Valley Phantoms' Kyrou Named to 2026 AHL All-Star Classic; Barkey Unavailable
Christian Kyrou was named to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic as Lehigh Valley’s representative after Denver Barkey remained with the Philadelphia Flyers, a boost for Kyrou’s rising profile.

Christian Kyrou will skate as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms’ representative at the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic in Rockford, Illinois, after Denver Barkey was unable to participate because he is currently with the Philadelphia Flyers. The All-Star Skills Competition is scheduled for Feb. 10 and the 3-on-3 All-Star Challenge will follow on Feb. 11, events that spotlight top prospects and midseason performers across the league.
Kyrou, a 22-year-old defenseman acquired from the Texas Stars on Oct. 30, 2025 in the trade that sent Samu Tuomaala to Dallas, has paced the Phantoms’ blueline with 24 points in 34 games this season, including seven goals and 17 assists. The Phantoms detailed Kyrou’s hot start after the trade and recent form: "The creative, puck-moving blueliner has racked up 24 points in 34 games with the Phantoms scoring seven goals with 17 assists. He racked up 1-6-7 in a five-game streak immediately upon his arrival. And has another five-game point streak currently ongoing recording 2-6-8 in the stretch including his second-career three-point game last Saturday against Bridgeport. Kyrou rates third on the team in scoring and is 11th among all AHL defensemen while rating fourth among blueliners in the Eastern Conference."
The Hockey News noted Kyrou’s continued run of production and contract picture, adding that "Kyrou, who is a restricted free agent at the end of this season, has three goals, seven assists, and 10 points in his last 10 appearances for the Phantoms." Kyrou also celebrated a milestone earlier this season, having reached his 100th AHL game, and he carries the additional storyline of following his older brother Jordan Kyrou, who played in the 2019 AHL All-Star Classic and has gone on to 462 NHL games.
Denver Barkey’s unavailability was confirmed on the AHL’s roster notice, which listed Hartford’s Gabe Perreault, Lehigh Valley’s Denver Barkey, Charlotte’s Tobias Bjornfot, Utica’s Seamus Casey and Henderson’s Carl Lindbom as players who "will be unable to participate." Barkey’s permanence on the Flyers’ roster through the NHL roster freeze ahead of the Olympic break left the Phantoms without their initial option and opened the door for Kyrou’s selection.

Beyond the individual recognition, Kyrou’s All-Star berth has organizational and market implications. The AHL historically has been a proven pipeline to the NHL; the league notes that "since 1995, more than 94 percent of All-Star Classic participants have gone on to compete in the National Hockey League." For the Flyers organization, Kyrou’s trade-value narrative and RFA status create a decision point: reward emerging production with NHL looks or leverage momentum into offseason contract discussions.
Fans in Allentown will watch Kyrou in Rockford as both a validation of his midseason surge and a barometer for how the Flyers handle younger defensemen. The All-Star weekend will offer Kyrou a national stage Feb. 10-11 and set the table for what comes next in his career trajectory and the Phantoms’ second half.
