Monsters Host Lake Erie Alumni Weekend Jan. 30-31, Honor 2016 Calder Cup
Cleveland Monsters kick off Lake Erie Monsters Weekend at Rocket Arena, honoring the 2016 Calder Cup team with alumni appearances, special programming and two games fans can watch on RESN.

Fans in Cleveland are getting a weekend-long reminder of a milestone moment as the Monsters roll out a celebration of the Lake Erie era with alumni appearances and televised tributes. The club is staging "Lake Erie Monsters Weekend presented by Cleveland Museum of Natural History on Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31, when the Belleville Senators visit Rocket Arena for 7:00 p.m. puck drops." The timing gives supporters who remember the 2015-16 squad a chance to reconnect as the franchise builds toward its 10-year anniversary in June.
Beyond the boxscore, the weekend is designed as a living archive. Broadcast coverage on Rock Entertainment Sports Network will feature alumni interviews and television programming linked to the tribute, including "a one hour Battled Together special presented by Cleveland Museum of Natural History featuring interviews with Monsters alumni Jared Bednar, Ryan Craig, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Zach Werenski and more reliving the team’s remarkable run to the claim the Calder Cup in 2016." That special amplifies the nostalgia play while also converting memory into content that can reach viewers who cannot attend in person.
Alumni scheduled to be on hand include Michael Chaput, Steve Eminger, Justin Falk, Michael Paliotta, John Ramage and Jaime Sifers. Fans have specific opportunities to meet several of those players on Saturday. "Additional alumni meet-and-greet opportunities will come on Saturday with Falk, Sifers and Ramage scheduled to appear at Center Court Pinecrest, the official satellite team shop of the Cleveland Monsters, for an autograph signing from noon to 1:00 p.m. The trio will also be available at the Legends Corner later that night in Rocket Arena’s atrium during the Modelo Happy Half Hour from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m." Monsters Hockey Club Members will get a final in-person window at a postgame press conference following Saturday’s game.
This weekend is also a case study in sports business strategy. Partnering with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History lends institutional heft to the programming and expands sponsorship conversations beyond the arena. Televised specials create ancillary inventory for broadcast partners and sponsorship dollars while alumni-driven activations help move tickets, merchandise and membership packages. Social media teasers, captured in the team’s post that reads, "From pregame ceremonies to signings, Lake Erie Monsters alumni will be around and ready to talk about one of our favorite memories 🏆" position the event as both a fan service and a narrative product.
For fans, the immediate payoff is clear: live access to foundational figures from the Calder Cup team and the chance to relive that run in person or through RESN coverage. For the franchise, the weekend stitches past success into current marketing, building momentum toward a June anniversary and keeping the Monsters brand culturally resonant within the Cleveland sports scene. Tickets remain available through the team’s official channels for both nights as the club balances celebration with outreach and broadcast opportunities.
