Ontario Reign Sign Defenseman Mastrodomenico to ATO, 2026-27 Contract

Michael Mastrodomenico arrived at his first professional contract having worn the captain's "C" for Notre Dame's entire 2025-26 season, and the Ontario Reign wasted no time securing him beyond the current campaign. The Los Angeles Kings' AHL affiliate signed the 21-year-old defenseman to an amateur tryout agreement on March 21 and simultaneously locked him in for the 2026-27 season with an AHL standard player contract, a two-part move that bridges his college career directly into professional hockey.

The Kirklan, QC native capped four seasons on the Notre Dame blueline with a career-best offensive output, scoring five goals and adding eight assists for 13 points in 35 games as team captain this year. Over his full collegiate run with the Fighting Irish, Mastrodomenico appeared in 120 games and accumulated 36 points on 10 goals and 26 assists, establishing himself as a steady, minutes-eating defender in one of college hockey's most competitive programs.

Before arriving in South Bend, Mastrodomenico spent two seasons in the USHL with the Lincoln Stars from 2020 to 2022, posting 26 points on six goals and 20 assists across 90 games. That junior foundation fed directly into a four-year NCAA career that ended with the program's captaincy, a credential that carries weight when evaluating a young defender's readiness for professional hockey.

For Ontario, which serves as the primary development pipeline for the Kings, adding a player who just completed 120 collegiate games and captained a Power Five program signals a bet on his defensive floor and leadership experience translating at the professional level.
