Penguins Recall Scooter Brickey and Nolan Renwick From Wheeling Nailers
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recalled defenseman Scooter Brickey and forward Nolan Renwick from the Wheeling Nailers, with Brickey slated to slot into the lineup for the Feb. 21 game vs. Bridgeport.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced they recalled defenseman Scooter Brickey and forward Nolan Renwick from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, in a team release published Feb. 21. The club listed the moves ahead of its Saturday night meeting with the Bridgeport Islanders at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, puck drop 6:05 p.m.
“WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have recalled defenseman Scooter Brickey and forward Nolan Renwick from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers,” the team release by Nick Hart read, and IslesInTheSound’s pregame notes added, “A few notes heading into tonight: Joey Larson returns after missing his first game of the season for Bridgeport, while Nolan Renwick and Scooter Brickey were recently recalled from Wheeling. Brickey is expected to slot into the lineup for the Penguins.”
Scooter Brickey, 26, has appeared in 13 AHL games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season with one assist and has 50 career AHL games, all with the Penguins organization since the end of the 2023-24 campaign. The team release noted Brickey “has earned five assists in that time.” In the ECHL this season with Wheeling, Brickey posted four goals and four assists for eight points in 10 games. The Penguins highlighted his scoring milestone: “He lit the lamp for his first pro goal on Nov. 28, 2025 against the Toledo Walleye, then tallied again later that same night.”
Nolan Renwick joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a one-year AHL contract after a four-year career at the University of Maine. The Penguins’ release summarized his college résumé: “Renwick signed a one-year AHL contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton upon the conclusion of his four-year career at the University of Maine. He posted collegiate highs with 15 assists and 24 points during his senior season while logging a team-best plus-25 rating for the Black Bears.” In 132 career games at Maine, Renwick totaled 66 points (24G-42A) and was “the runner-up for Hockey East Best Defensive Forward in 2024-25,” per the team announcement.

A later item published Feb. 24 by OurSportsCentral lists a different transaction status, naming Brickey and Renwick among four players reassigned to the Wheeling Nailers. That Feb. 24 release reads in part: “Forwards Raivis Ansons and Nolan Renwick along with defenseman Scooter Brickey have been reassigned by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Wheeling. Defenseman Emil Pieniniemi has been reassigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Wheeling.” OurSportsCentral’s item also noted Raivis Ansons had appeared in 25 games this season with two goals and four assists and that Ansons was injured Jan. 3 at Syracuse and missed the team’s last 19 games.
Game coverage across Feb. 21-22 referenced the recall language while reporting on the Penguins-Islanders series. Kenny Kaminsky’s Feb. 22 recap, “Game 50 Recap: Penguins Score Four Straight to Down Islanders 4-3,” mentions Renwick and Brickey were “recently recalled from Wheeling,” and describes Sebastian Aho scoring late in the second to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 3-2 lead, with tempers flaring when Daylan Kuefler and Tristian Broz dropped the gloves. The team preview for that matchup listed Jeremy Smith expected for Bridgeport and Joel Blomqvist for the Penguins.
As of Feb. 24, the club’s Feb. 21 recall announcement and the Feb. 24 OurSportsCentral reassignment item present inconsistent public accounts of Brickey’s and Renwick’s roster status; the Penguins’ official release is the primary source for the Feb. 21 recall while the Feb. 24 item lists a subsequent reassignment for both players.
