ACO gives adaptive cornhole its own rankings and world championship path

Adaptive cornhole now has its own points race, ranking and world-title pathway inside the American Cornhole Organization, with up to 64 top-ranked teams eligible for invitations to the ACO World Championships of Cornhole. The ACO says Adaptive Doubles is a points-earning division on its tour, giving the format the same kind of season-long stakes that drive the rest of the sport.

The structure goes deeper than a showcase bracket. ACO rules name Chapter 3.13, ACO Adaptive Cornhole Division, and Chapter 3.14, Adaptive Athletes in ACO Points Earning Divisions, placing adaptive play directly into the sport’s official rulebook. The adaptive division operates under its own amended rules, while adaptive athletes who enter other ACO competitive divisions still must follow the current rules. That split gives the division a protected competitive lane without isolating players from the broader tour.

The pathway runs through the same ladder that supports the rest of the ACO calendar. Regionals are points-earning tournaments held at least once a month from September to May in most regions of the USA, and the ACO says there can be up to four Majors each season that include Adaptive Doubles tournaments. Those events feed the rankings, and the rankings feed the invitation list for Worlds. The ACO also says eligible members can compete for trophies or jerseys in the division, adding real seasonal rewards to the points chase.

That formal framework sits inside an organization that has been building cornhole for nearly two decades. The American Cornhole Organization says it was founded by Frank Geers in 2005 and held its first ACO Nationals Championship in December 2006 in Northern Kentucky. Its World Championships of Cornhole is a week-long July event and is always free for spectators. The next Worlds are scheduled for July 20-25, 2026, in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Adaptive results are already part of the championship record. The ACO’s 2024-2025 champions page lists an ACO Adaptive category and names Matthew Davis and Russell Love as the Adaptive champions. An ACO post announcing the creation of a new Adaptive Division said Davis and Love won Adaptive in Owensboro, with the next Adaptive Division tournament scheduled for Branson, Missouri. A livestream from August 29, 2024, showed ACO Adaptive Cornhole from the Buffalo Major, another sign that the division is not an exhibition idea but an active piece of the sport’s competitive calendar.
