Markellus Bass ran past every NJCAA defender in 2025, and now FCS programs are chasing him just as hard. The Butler Community College running back led the nation in rushing with 1,237 yards, earned First Team NJCAA All-American honors, and added an All-KJCCC selection to close out his season with the Grizzlies. The result has been a surge of FCS interest that accelerated sharply in early March.

Southern Utah head coach DeLane Fitzgerald personally connected with Bass before extending an offer on March 9. Two days later, Alabama A&M followed with its own offer on March 11, coming after Bass held conversations with Brad Ball, the Bulldogs' Director of Recruiting and Scouting, and running back coach Jamaal Fobbs. Northern Arizona has also offered, though the exact date of that offer has not been confirmed.

Bass made clear that the Alabama A&M relationship runs deeper than a single phone call. "I always have conversations with Coach Ball, whom I have been talking to for a while," Bass said. "He and Coach Fobbs have been doing a great job of keeping in touch with me and letting me know how serious they are about me."

The three-star prospect's offer sheet extends well beyond those programs. Prairie View A&M, Tennessee-Martin, Bryant, Lamar, UTEP, Houston Christian, East Tennessee State, Southeast Missouri State, Campbell, Chicago State, Indiana State, and Alcorn State have all extended offers, giving Bass one of the more expansive recruiting profiles at the JUCO level this cycle. The list spans HBCU programs in the SWAC, mid-major FCS conferences, and Big South contenders, reflecting broad demand for a back who topped every rusher in the country at the NJCAA level last fall.

With at least 15 FCS programs in the mix, Bass figures to be one of the most sought-after JUCO transfers available as the spring recruiting calendar unfolds.
