Morgan State, Robert Morris Agree to Home-and-Home Football Series in 2026, 2027

Morgan State and Robert Morris have agreed to a home-and-home football series spanning the 2026 and 2027 seasons, with the MEAC Bears hosting the NEC Colonials at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore on Oct. 10, 2026, and the return set for Oct. 2, 2027, at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa.

A copy of the game contract, obtained from Morgan State University through a state public records request, confirms that a return game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2, 2027, at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa. The matchup first surfaced in late January with the release of Morgan State's 2026 schedule.

The two programs carry a split history into the series. They have met twice on the gridiron, with Morgan State edging out a 13-12 victory in 2011 before Robert Morris answered two years later with a 31-14 win. The upcoming two-game set offers each program a chance to claim the series outright.

The Robert Morris game is one of seven non-conference dates on Morgan State's 2026 slate. The Bears open the season Aug. 29 at North Carolina A&T, then travel to Arizona State on Sept. 5 before returning home to host Virginia-Lynchburg on Sept. 12. Road trips to Towson (Sept. 19) and Villanova (Oct. 3) precede the Robert Morris homecoming, and Morgan State closes its non-conference run the following week by hosting Tennessee State on Oct. 17.

That Tennessee State matchup carries its own historical weight. Tennessee State Director of Athletics Dr. Mikki Allen announced the home-and-home series with Morgan State in January, with the Tigers hosting the Bears in Nashville on Oct. 17, 2026, and the return game scheduled for 2027 in Baltimore. Tennessee State is unbeaten all-time against Morgan State, a ledger that includes a 14-0 victory in the 1972 Atlanta Ebony Classic, a 21-0 shutout at Vanderbilt Stadium in 1985, a 52-10 win in Baltimore in 1986, and a 37-17 victory at Hale Stadium in 1987. The 2026 game will mark the first meeting between the programs in nearly four decades.

Morgan State's 2027 non-conference schedule is equally demanding. The Bears travel to Richmond on Sept. 4 and Sacred Heart on Sept. 11 before returning home to host Towson (Sept. 18), Tennessee State (Sept. 25), and Virginia-Lynchburg (Oct. 9), with the Robert Morris road trip to Moon Township on Oct. 2 rounding out six non-conference opponents.

For Robert Morris, the Morgan State series fits into a similarly active non-league calendar. The Colonials open the 2026 season at home against West Virginia State on Sept. 5, travel to Akron on Sept. 12 and Buffalo on Sept. 26, and host Norfolk State on Oct. 3 before making the trip to Baltimore. In 2027, Robert Morris adds a road game at Youngstown State on Sept. 18 ahead of hosting Morgan State on Oct. 2 at Joe Walton Stadium, making it the Colonials' second confirmed non-conference opponent that season.
