New Orleans Bowl MVP Maverick McIvor Accepts 2026 American Bowl Invite
New Orleans Bowl MVP Maverick McIvor accepted an invite to the inaugural 2026 American Bowl, joining teammate Cole Maynard and increasing his exposure to NFL scouts.

Maverick McIvor has accepted an invitation to the inaugural American Bowl, a prime-time all-star showcase built to highlight prospects projected in the fourth through seventh rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft. The decision, announced Jan. 15, follows McIvor's game-changing performance in the New Orleans Bowl and positions the former Abilene Christian transfer for a national audition in front of NFL personnel.
The American Bowl will air in prime time on NFL Network on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. CT and is scheduled to be played at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, before an expected sellout crowd of 4,000. McIvor joins WKU punter Cole Maynard as Hilltoppers who have accepted invitations to the new event, which fills a calendar gap between the College Football Playoff National Championship and the NFL Conference Championships.
McIvor capped his college career with New Orleans Bowl MVP honors after coming off the bench to lead Western Kentucky to a 27-16 victory over Southern Miss at Caesars Superdome on Dec. 23. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 199 yards and added 48 yards and a touchdown on eight carries in the bowl game. That performance underscored a 2025 season in which he threw for 2,062 yards and 12 touchdowns on 183-of-273 passing with six interceptions across eight games, including seven starts, while also rushing for 76 yards and two scores on 39 attempts. The Hilltoppers finished 9-4.
McIvor's trajectory from FCS standout to FBS bowl hero is rooted in three productive seasons at Abilene Christian, where he accumulated 8,012 passing yards and 63 touchdowns on 655-of-1,089 passing with 21 interceptions. His résumé included preseason and midseason recognition: Preseason All-Conference USA nods from Phil Steele and Athlon Sports, placement on the 2025 C-USA Preseason Watch List, the 2025 Maxwell Award Watch List, the 2026 Senior Bowl Top 300 Watch List, and the 2025 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List.

For NFL evaluators, the American Bowl's focus on mid-round prospects gives McIvor a concentrated stage to show his arm accuracy, mobility and game management under pro-level scrutiny. Coming off a high-profile bowl outing in a major venue, McIvor arrives with recent tape that highlights his ability to change a game as a substitute and to lead under pressure. For WKU, his selection adds a national showcase to the program's pipeline narrative and underscores the transfer portal's role in elevating FCS talent to FBS opportunities.
The American Bowl's prime-time slot and NFL Network platform promise meaningful exposure for McIvor and other under-the-radar prospects, while fans get an early look at players likely to populate the middle rounds of the 2026 draft. For WKU supporters and FCS followers, McIvor's appearance is a concrete sign that strong performances at smaller programs can translate to draft-room consideration and national attention.
