Pearland QB Tavis Coleman Commits to McNeese State After Unofficial Visit

Tavis Coleman had been texting with Coach Bolfing for two weeks before the phone call came. Once it did, the Shadow Creek High School quarterback's recruitment moved fast: an unofficial visit to Lake Charles over the weekend, and a commitment to McNeese State announced on Sunday.

Coleman, a first-team All-District signal-caller from Pearland, Texas, made his decision public via social media, writing: "After talking with my family, and the amazing coaches at McNeese State University. I am 100% committed to play football for the McNeese State Cowboys! #commited #GeauxPokes #bringingthewood #demcolemanboyz."

The recruitment took shape quickly once Bolfing escalated contact from text to phone. Coleman described the call in detail after FCS Football Central caught up with him to recap his commitment.

"Coach Bolfing called me, and the conversation went as well as you could imagine," Coleman said. "I had already been in communication with him via text for about two weeks before he called me, and while on the phone, he laid the foundation for what goes on at McNeese State University and how the program works. He made it very clear off the top that I'm the #1 guy on their board and how much he and Coach Viator (Head coach Matt Viator) loved my tape."

Being identified as the top-ranked prospect on McNeese's board clearly carried weight in Coleman's decision. The Cowboys, under head coach Matt Viator, pursued the Pearland product with a direct message: he was their priority at the position, and his film had already won over the staff before the visit began.

The commitment adds a first-team All-District quarterback to McNeese's recruiting class, with Coleman bringing credentials from one of the Houston area's more competitive districts out of Shadow Creek High School. The Cowboys program now moves to the next phase of securing Coleman's enrollment, with the specifics of his signing timeline not yet publicly announced.
